TheBalm Plump Your Pucker Tinted Gloss Review

From Sephora: “Formulated with a special combination of folic acid, menthol, and vitamin C, these sexy glosses increase blood flow to the lips and reduce the look of fine lines. But the lip building benefits have only just begun! An additional ingredient, Maxi-lip, works cumulatively to encourage lasting fullness. Be prepared for a poutier pucker after 30 days!”

Overall, I’d have to say I’m really pleased with TheBalm’s Plump Your Pucker Tinted glosses. Now I wouldn’t say run out and get them this very instant as they’ll change your life, but having gotten them for only $5.99 each from Victoria’s Secret (compared to the original $14), I’m more than happy with them.

As for the colors, I’ve only tried two so far: Water My Melon and Root Beer My Float. As the name indicates, these are “tinted” glosses, meaning they’re very sheer and not all that pigmented. I really wanted to try Cocoa my Coconut, but unfortunately that was out of stock.

Swatches: Water My Melon and Root Beer My Float

Water My Melon is a sheer candy pink gloss that smells just like a Watermelon Jolly Rancher (yum!!!). Once applied it looks pretty much like a clear gloss, and not a very shiny one at that. I tend to use it more like a lip balm as the formulas are very moisturizing and feel great on, but I definitely won’t be repurchasing this shade.

I’m sure you can figure out what Root Beer My Float smells like for yourself! It’s a shimmery golden shade that, although very natural, enhances your lips and gives you a pretty polished finish. I love to wear this gloss alone, but it also looks beautiful over any type of lipstick, especially if you’re going for a nude look!

I swatched TheBalm’s Root Beer My Float (left) next to MAC’s She-Gold Lipglass (right) from the DressCamp collection as the two looked quite similar in the tube. Root Beer My Float is a tiny bit more opaque.

These purport to be a plumping gloss, but I really didn’t expect any plumping benefits, since what plumping gloss out there actually gives you any plumping action? And since I wasn’t expecting anything, I wasn’t disappointed when these failed to deliver (although they do help to plump up any little lines). What did make me happy was the fact that the plumpers in these glosses aren’t the kind that cause stinging, burning, and other unpleasantness. Rather, the Plump Your Pucker glosses feel great on and taste yummy too! The menthol creates a cooling sensation, almost like a little mini air-conditioner for your lips, and I love the product for that alone! Each shade has a coordinating flavor, so if you don’t like the taste of one you can just try another 🙂 The formula is akin to MAC lustreglasses, meaning it’s glossy but not all that tacky/sticky, which also means that it’s not as long-wearing as MAC lipglasses or Chanel glossimers.

I think I may try out a few more shades once I’m through with these, just because I’m really liking the textures of the glosses and the cooling sensations they give me, but they’re definitely not a must-have!

Have you tried these? Loved them? Hated them? Tell me in the comments!
