A Belated Merry Christmas to You All!

December 29, 2009

Hey everyone! So I’m back from my little holiday hiatus (which really wasn’t much of a hiatus – I just couldn’t find the time to blog as work has been a madhouse) with some amazing new products and fun new ABS developments (including a big giveaway) coming your way very soon.

The lovely Nicole sent me the most amazing Christmas package and of course I had to share! She included:

  • Chanel Rouge Allure Laque in Dragon (seriously the most gorgeous red I’ve ever seen)
  • OPI DS Nail Lacquer in Reserve
  • Cle de Peau concealer (this has been on my wishlist for YEARS!)
  • Amore Pacific Clarifying Mask (smells yummy)
  • and a bunch of fun Hello Kitty goodies that really brighten up my office space

My other big Christmas gift came from the SO in the form of a Flip, which will finally enable me to post some (hopefully) great quality videos up on the ABS YouTube channel.

More photos (and details on my cute Flip skin) after the jump!

I’ve been lusting after the OPI Designer Series polishes since receiving DS Fantasy (photos here) and know that Reserve is going to be just as drool-worthy.

Chanel’s Rouge Allure Laques have a wonderfully creamy formula and are amazingly long-wearing – I loved Ming (photo here) and Dragon is one of the most stunning reds I’ve ever seen and pretty much universally flattering. My dear friend Cathy gave it a shot last night and it looked stunning on her.

I love Amore’s Treatment Enzyme Peel and I now have this Clarifying Masque which leaves my face looking toned, smooth and radiant. And it doesn’t hurt that it smells delicious to boot.

Cle de Peau’s concealer has long been hailed as the holy grail of concealers, and thanks to Nicole’s generosity I finally have it in my hands. It’s painfully small for something that’s so painfully expensive, but I’ve been playing with it for the past few days and it’s definitely living up to the hype thus far.

And now for the Flip! 🙂 I’ve been wanting one for the longest time so that I could post some HD videos for you on YouTube (I’ve been thinking of doing videos of my favorite pink lipsticks, product reviews, demonstrations, swatches, etc.) and the SO was kind enough to oblige. I ordered myself a skin from DecalGirl and now I’m good to go!

How have the holidays been treating you? Share with me in the comments!

SEPHORA by OPI Nail Colour in 212-Sephora Review & NOTD

November 1, 2009

SEPHORA by OPI’s Nail Colour in 212-Sephora
($9) is a limited-edition shade that was launched for the opening of the latest Sephora Times Square location a few months back. 212 sold out quickly and was slow to come back in stock, but now that it’s back I had to get a bottle for myself. It’s a smoky black polish base with a myriad of iridescent gold, copper and other shimmery bits that’s opaque in two coats – be forewarned that this is one glittery polish!

A lot of you have been asking me what polish I was wearing in my first two YouTube videos (thank you so so much to everyone for checking them out and subscribing!), and this is it. 212 was my polish of choice for Halloween as the chunkier coppery/orange looking shimmery bits are nice and festive and definitely holiday-appropriate.

Check out my nail photos and the rest of the review after the jump!

One thing that I do feel needs to be mentioned is that 212 Sephora tends to look a little green under certain liking conditions. It’s not unattractive, just a little weird. The finish isn’t completely smooth due to all the glitter – it’s a little lumpy and chunky feeling, and definitely a major ordeal to remove, but all in all I’m kind of loving it.

It’s no OPI DS polish (really need more of these!) but constantly find myself admiring all the shimmer (there’s much more than you see in the photos – darn flash!) so it must be pretty nice, right?

I purchased this product myself. A fellow blogger, Charm Candy, introduced me to the shade and I spent weeks hunting it down. Needless to say I was ecstatic to learn it was back in stock!

OPI Designer Series Nail Lacquer in DS Fantasy Review & NOTD

October 26, 2009

The Designer Series by OPI is a line of nail lacquers with a state-of-the-art formula that combines dazzling diamond dust with saturated pigments to give you a nail color that explodes with brilliant almost holographic shimmer.

Shade DS Fantasy is a deep, midnight blue base that contains a ton of magical silvery blue shimmer that gives your tips the illusion of a starry night sky. The shimmer is awe-inspiringly beautiful and really is a must see on nails.

See DS Fantasy on my nails after the jump-it’s not to be missed!

I’ve been wanting to try the OPI DS polishes for the longest time but I haven’t been able to find them near me. However a sweet individual was wonderful enough to send me a package including this polish and a bunch of other fun goodies for me to play with. These DS polishes are dangerous though – definitely the type of product where once you’ve tried it, you can’t stop at just one!

Thanks so much for the package Mariza I really loved everything!

OPI Matte Polish Collection

June 10, 2009

OPI Matte Polishes in:
Russian Navy, Lincoln Park After Dark, You Don’t Know Jacques!
Alpine Snow, La Paz-Itively Hot, Gargantuan Green Grape

While I wasn’t too crazy about the KO Knock Out matte polishes when I gave them a go at Bendel’s a few months back, I’m still tingly with anticipation awaiting the July launch of OPI’s matte collection, partially because it’s tough to find a really nice color selection when it comes to mattes.

Come July, OPI will be launching 6 matte polishes to correspond with their already released, best-selling glossy counterparts. Matte polish definitely makes a statement, but it also requires a lot of upkeep since they tend to show more wear & tear, especially since they’re meant to be worn sans topcoat. And for those of you who aren’t feeling the whole matte nail trend, you can minimally indulge by using the matte polish as an accent shade (think matte french tips!).

I’ve also been hearing that Butter London’s Nail Foundation Flawless Basecoat when used on top of your polish basically acts as a mattifier, meaning you can get the matte look using all your favorite polishes. I’m dreaming of matte Konadicures!

Here’s a little more info on the Nail Foundation from Butter London’s site:

This treatment hides and smoothes tiny ridges and imperfections in the nail. It is like cover-up, or foundation make-up for the nail. It leaves a silky, matte finish when used alone. This makes it an excellent product for MEN who want an invisible, but immaculate manicure. When used as basecoat, it provides a beautiful, smooth surface on which to paint. This will give a wonderful result to the look of your lacquer.

Sephora by OPI’s Spring 2009 polishes are HOT! Warmer weather means an influx of brights for fingers and toes, and Sephora has certainly hit the mark with these gorgeously vibrant yet creamy hues–just looking at these polishes uplifts my spirits and brings thoughts of warmer, happier weather.

OPI Holiday in Toyland Collection Review

December 19, 2008

I picked up OPI’s Tiny Toybox–a mini set of four of their Holiday in Toyland polishes–because it was simply the cutest thing that I’ve seen in ages. I’m usually the kind of person who uses a polish once or twice and then gets sick of it, so to have four mini polishes is perfect–I can use them once or twice and then move onto the next shade!

Glamour Game:
A shimmering champagne gold, great for a slightly frosty holiday look.

Brand New Skates:
A medium dark silver/gray with gorgeous multi-colored flecks of glitter that’s my favorite polish of the four. It’s dark without being too dark, glistens beautifully in the light, and the perfect polish for those days when you’re just not feeling the black polish.

Don’t Toy With Me!:
A burgundy sparkler that’s seriously stunning. You can see photos of me wearing it here, but honestly the photos don’t do it justice as it’s a much deeper, multi-dimensional shade that sparkles brilliantly. I generally avoid red polishes like the plague, but I’ve fallen hard for this one.

Little Red Wagon:
A classic holiday red that’s gorgeous for that Christmas-morning manicure.

OPI’s Baby It’s Coal Outside

I promised you a comparison of Dior’s Black Sequins and OPI’s Baby It’s Coal Outside nearly two months ago after the ever helpful Deb mentioned that the two are rather similar, and it took me awhile to track it down but here it finally is! Deb thank you so much for turning me onto this polish, because not only is it less than half the price of the Dior, but I actually find it to be much prettier!

The Dior has a finer shimmer to it that while visible just doesn’t give as great a starry night effect as Baby It’s Coal Outside does, and while the OPI dries to a nice smooth finish, the Dior retains a slightly gritty texture. The one thing that Black Sequins does have going for it is the fact that the polish is super black whereas the OPI tend to be a little less so. But overall both polishes are absolutely gorgeous and make for stunning black nails with a touch of silver shimmer.
