Quick Video Review of Lancome Oscillation PowerFoundation

October 31, 2009

Again with text review and lots of photos to come at some point in the coming week! I’m just doing a quick YouTube experiment to see if I actually do like it (and to see if you guys actually want videos since honestly at this point I’m not a big fan) – I seem to be losing my voice though which stinks!

Quick Video Review of Guerlain Perles Imperiales Holiday 2009 Meteorites

October 31, 2009
I’ll be updating tomorrow with a text review and some gorgeous close-up shots of the Guerlain’s 2009 Holiday ‘Perles Imperiales’ Meteorites, but I thought you might enjoy a quick video in the interim. It’s my first on YouTube so be gentle!

ABS Does YouTube!

October 31, 2009

Sooo I’ve decided to give YouTube a try to give you a closer look at some of my favorite products, and who knows, it may even grow on me! If it does, I promise you’ll be getting higher-quality videos, but for now please bear with my little YouTube experimentation and be kind, I’m really not used to the whole video thing at all! I’ve done two quickies on the Guerlain Holiday Meteorites (Perles Imperiales) and the new Lancome Oscillation Powderfoundation, with full text reviews and photos to come later. I hope you enjoy them (you can check out my channel HERE)! Oh and I accidentally chopped off the ends to both so they’re a little abrupt =P.

Guerlain Perle de Lune KissKiss Gloss Review, Swatches, Lip Swatches and Tons More Photos

October 30, 2009
Guerlain ‘Kiss Kiss’ Gloss in Perle de Lune #807 ($29)

Ahhh the beauty of the holiday season – crisp cool weather, ice skating in the park, snuggling up against that special somebody while sipping a mug of hot cocoa (all this assuming you live somewhere that actually gets cold in the winter LOL) – and best of all, the holiday collections! There’s nothing I love more than a good holiday beauty release, and Guerlain’s 2009 ‘Imperial Holiday’ Collection is definitely a stunner.

Guerlain really outdid themselves this 2009 holiday season with stunning black lace reminiscent packaging and elegant shimmering hues.

See my thoughts on the limited edition KissKiss gloss in Perle de Lune after the jump!

Guerlain ‘Kiss Kiss’ Gloss in Perle de Lune #807 came rather beautifully packaged, the always elegant gold-lidded tube dressed in black lace for the holidays. Perle de Lune is a pale champagne base interspersed with predominantly gold shimmer. The formula is non-sticky and hydrating, and coverage is sheer but scintillating. The KissKiss glosses all have a light florally rose scent to them that I actually quite enjoy as it seems to add to the elegance of the whole experience, and they last for a good 4-5 hours meaning you should be good for a night out on the town without having to constantly reapply.

Perle de Lune is the kind of shade that gives lips a shimmering gilded elegance when worn alone, but really comes to life when layered over darker shades that need that extra something to dress them up for a holiday soiree.

My favorite aspect of the KissKiss glosses? The dazzling shimmer which sadly is ridiculously hard to capture on camera. But if you enlarge the two lip shots down below, you’ll see what I mean ~ multi-dimensional shimmer that really is something special.

Since people having been asking me what my lips look like prior to applying lipstick/gloss, I’ve included a shot up top. The second lip shot is what Perle de Lune looks like over nude lipstick, and photo three is a shot of the gloss on its own sans flash.

I wouldn’t say Perle de Lune is a must-have as I’m sure many of you already have several glosses that are quite similar or just aren’t a fan of the sheerness, but if you’re looking for something to add a little pizazz to your holiday lip collection, definitely give the Guerlain KissKiss glosses a gander!

This review contains a press sample sent to ABS by the brand’s PR representative for blog consideration. Although this probably isn’t a shade that I would have chosen for myself, that’s what I love about press samples – getting to try (and being able to review) shades I probably wouldn’t have purchased on my own

Kiehl’s Imperial Body Balm Review & Swatches

October 30, 2009
Kiehl’s Imperial Body Balm ($42)

From the Label: Inspired by old-world Russian herbal remedies, this supremely rich body balm renews the look of very dry, tired-looking skin with Sea Buckthron Berry Oil, known for its replenishing effects on skin. Sea Buckthorn was even known to be a secret ingredient used by Russian Cosmonauts.

When I first saw that Kiehls was launching this Kiehl’s Imperial Body Balm, a major lemming was born. Berry and olive oil to regenerate skin, shea and cocoa butters to hydrate, and honey and fruit glycolic acids to accelerate skin turnover for improved smoothness and radiance – how could I resist? The funny thing is I received a press sample of this literally the day that I was planning to go out to buy it. Yay!

The Kiehl’s Imperial Body Balm is a thick opaque yellow cream/balm that smells of shea and cocoa butters (not particularly appealing to me, but not really offensive either). It’s rich and luxurious and a little really goes a long way – yet amazingly enough it’s not even remotely greasy and it sinks so quickly into my skin that by the time I’ve gotten around to getting dressed, I’ve forgotten all about it.

The Kiehl’s Imperial Body Balm is beautifully hydrating and while pricey at $42, if you do the math it comes to $5 an ounce which isn’t terrible considering that I don’t foresee ever finishing this mammoth tub. My one gripe is that I find huge tubs like this rather annoying and cumbersome, but I guess I can’t have it all!

This review contains a press sample sent to ABS by the brand’s PR representative for blog consideration. Honestly I probably would’ve purchased it myself if I hadn’t received it as I was dying to try it. I’m a sucker for a product with the words “imperial” and “balm” in the name!

LAVANILA Laboratories The Healthy Deodorant Review

October 30, 2009

Happy Friday my lovelies! I’m sorry to have disappeared on you for a bit but I promise I’m back with some fun Halloween (and holiday 2009) posts coming your way all weekend! So stay tuned, because I’ll be blogging all weekend for a change!

LAVANILA Laboratories The Healthy Deodorant ($18)

On the agenda for today is this LAVANILA deodorant which has been on the ABS to-review list for months now. So what’s to love?

Well this clinical strength, 100% natural deodorant is not only easily the most attractive deodorant on the market with its chic color schemes and packaging and pretty domed interior, but it also soothes and conditions your underarms (yes your underarms need a little TLC too!) while leaving them stink-free and lightly scented of vanilla with just the slightest touch of grapefruity freshness.

LAVANILA’s Health Deodorants roll on smoothly and cleanly and don’t leave any unpleasant stickiness or other strange sensations that some other deodorants I’ve tried have left me with. They contain goji berry (provides antioxidant and anti-inflammatory action), Japanese honeysuckle (acts as a natural preservative and antibacterial), lichen, lemon and tea tree oils (prevents the growth of odor-causing bacteria), amongst other great ingredients.

I purchased this product myself for review on ABS. LAVANILA Vanilla Grapefruit was love at first sniff for me, and while I didn’t need the fragrance (I have too many as is) I couldn’t resist it in deodorant form!

Join Me On a Sneak Peek Into the Victoria’s Secret Offices and Holiday 2009 Releases!

October 28, 2009

This post is long overdue and all of these items have already launched, but a few months back I had the opportunity to check out the Victoria’s Secret headquarters and to preview the upcoming (now currently available) holiday releases. I figured you’d enjoy having a peek at the photos, and of course all the products!

I was so impressed by everything, particularly the fragrances. Everything smelled just heavenly and I had an absolutely amazing time ~ which is saying quite a bit considering this starting at an ungodly hour on a rainy morning.

See a million more photos and a few snippets of information after the jump! Oh and you also get to see the PJ’s I’ve been living in since attending this event =P.

This photo showcases the Velvet Amber Blackberry fragrance collection ~ the creators of this fragrance said that the scent is meant to evoke the sensuality of velvet – it’s warmth and the wonderful plush feeling it has. I never thought you could capture Velvet in a bottle, but this really comes pretty close! I absolutely loved the packaging for this line as well – so rich, so luxe, so elegant!

Oh forgot to mention – please keep in mind that a good majority of these products are in sample packaging and may or may not be accurate representations of the actual packaging.

One of my personal favorite collections amongst the holiday launches was this Peace Love Hope fragrance release from the PINK line. The scent is comprised of green apple and honeysuckle and it’s young, fresh, fruity and just simply delightful! LOVE everything from this line!

Victoria’s Secret also created some adorable holiday goodies that make ideal stocking stuffers as they’re cutely packaged and very affordable. Plus many of them even double as holiday ornaments!

Okay so these are the pajamas I’ve been living in since returning from this event. They were included in the goody bag and they’re seriously cozy, comfy, soft and just downright cute! I kind of feel like a Christmas elf in these, but in a good way.

And who doesn’t want to check out a bowl of beribboned underwear? I thought this photo would make a nice closer for this post. Hope you enjoyed joining me on my visit to the Victoria’s Secret corporate offices!

Help Me Support A Fellow Blogger & Go Check Out Painted Ladies!

October 28, 2009

I know I’ve been promising you the Guerlain Holiday review and rest assured it’s coming this week, but in the meantime if you’re in the mood for some great new beauty reads head on over to Painted Ladies, a recently launched (August to be specific) beauty blog for all ages featuring reviews, Q&A’s and tips and tricks from the pros, and of course, giveaways! They’ve actually currently got one going on for a MAC My Favorite Pink Dazzleglass (you all know how much I wanted this one – it’s a gorgeous shade) which ends tomorrow, so be sure to head on over!

Why the mention on ABS? Well primarily because one of the Painted Ladies co-founders, Taryn, is a fantastic blogger and an even more wonderful friend ~ when ABS was barely a blip on the blogger radar (well I guess it still is barely more than a blip but you get what I mean) she offered me tons of moral support and even sent me two fabulous packages chock full of Japanese goodies to help me have some stuff to review on the blog. Check the packages out here and here!

So if you’ve got a free moment or two and are interested in checking out a fresh new perspective on the beauty scene, definitely head on over to Painted Ladies and have a look around. And don’t forget to enter their giveaway!

Tsumori Chisato for shu uemura Rouge Unlimited Lipstick in Jupiter Brown Review, Swatches & Lip Shot

October 26, 2009

Tsumori Chisato for shu uemura ‘Rouge Unlimited’ Lipstickicon ($25) is, at least for me, one of those items that any serious makeup collector will feel the compulsion to own. I purchased mine sight unseen at the counter at Nordstrom as the testers were all missing and there was just one of these little darlings remaining.

While I thought the packaging was super kawaii online, it’s nothing compared to the cuteness this lippie exudes in person! The ‘Lucky Cat’ peeking out at you from the cap, the gold star and paw prints and the overall color scheme make this Tsumori Chisato for shu uemura ‘Rouge Unlimited’ Lipstick in Jupiter Brown such a delight to look at and own.

More review plus and hand and lip swatches and close-ups after the jump!

This Tusmori Chisato lipstick comes in one loan shade, Jupiter Brown, and while I wasn’t too into the pinky brown shade at first glance, it’s actually pretty beautiful on the lips. If you check out the close-ups down below you’ll see that this lipstick is heavy on the gold shimmer housed within a rosy pink base with some barely there brown undertones.

On my lips this turns into a sheer, glossy pinky brown shade with a generous helping of gold shimmer (this really does look pretty pink on me) and while I was expecting to love the packaging and to just tolerate the lipstick shade itself, this one is actually pretty gorgeous. It’s not the muddy brown that I’d feared (I don’t know who came up with the name Juptier Brown but I’m not a fan) but more a fleshy rosy shade lightened up by all the gold shimmer – really a beauty!

Of course the top lip shot was taken with flash, the bottom without. It was ridiculously hard to get a good representation of this shade on camera for some reason, so the bottom shade shows the gold shimmer whereas the top showcases the color a little more accurately. The shade actually has a little more gold to it in person, but it is beautiful and, being a Rouge Unlimited, the formula is of course glossy and wonderful.

What do you think?

I purchased this product myself. Just couldn’t resist the star, pawprints and cute cat calling to me from the aisles of Nordstrom!

Essie Matte About You Review & Swatches

October 26, 2009
Essie Matte About You ($10)

Matte nails have been all the rage this year and while I happen to love the look, I’ve been hesitant to purchase matte polishes as I already own a lot of polishes I like, and of course I worry that I’ll be over matte polishes long before I’ll have made any decent progress on my bottles of polish.

Nicole was sweet enough to send me this bottle of Essie’s Matte About You and it’s really been the perfect solution to my dilemma ~ it enable me to mattify any polish that I already own, obviating the need for additional polish purchases!

OPI DS Fantasy before Matte About You.

Check out the AFTER shot and the rest of the review after the jump!

So honestly OPI DS wasn’t my favorite mattified look, but I’ve been using this for months with a million different polishes and it works just beautifully, transforming my polishes from shiny and glossy to creamy smooth satiny matte finishes.

One thing about applying a matte top coat is that when the matte top coat starts to fade, your nails will start to look glossy once again. I also had a lot of issue with my polish starting to flake (literally) a day or two after using this stuff, so I had to resort to applying my polish, then a layer of my usual top coat, then matte about you on top of that for long-lasting color.

Overall it’s a great option to have, and while it does necessitate a little effort, I happen to love my Matte About You!
