Year End Roundup: ABS’ Favorite Products of 2008

December 31, 2008

It being New Year’s Eve and all, it seemed only fitting that my last post for this year be a review of all of the posts that I’ve made this year, plus a little preview as to what you’ll be seeing next year.

Thank you so much to everybody who’s made my first eight months of blogging so memorable; I never thought that I would meet so many wonderful people through a makeup blog! I have great things planned for A Beautyful Sentiment in 2009, including a new look for the blog at some point, so I hope that you’ll stick with me and continue to come back and visit often! I’ve enjoyed getting to know each and every one of your during the course of 2008!

So onto the roundup! If the product has a link, it means I’ve reviewed it; if I plan to review it sometime soon it’ll have “to be reviewed” next to it; if I don’t plan on reviewing it there’ll be nothing next to it, so if there’s anything you’d like to see reviewed please let me know!

Dior Lady Dior Spring 2009 Collection Photos

Lady Dior Cannage Bag ($1,800)

So it looks like Dior has finally decided to indulge both my bag and makeup obsessions in one sweet little package–this Lady Dior compact.

Photobucket

This is just one of those products that causes me to squeal with delight! Yes I’m sure it’s ridiculously overpriced, horribly impractical, clunky, heavy, and not the wisest purchase I could make given the state of the economy, but the heart wants what the heart wants. Check out more photos of Dior’s Spring 2009 release here–it looks like this could double as a very cute bag charm, and would be absolute perfection for those of you who own the Lady Dior bag!

(photo from this Korean blog)

The Lady Dior compact contains a lip/cheek color and a highlighter and comes in two colors families. I’m leaning towards the pinkier shade (as opposed to the red) myself but of course I need to see these in person before making any final decisions. The compact retails for 89,000 won in Korea which is the equivalent of approximately $70 dollars—ouch!!!

Photobucket

Also a part of Dior’s Spring 2009 release are these two 5-Color Eyeshadow Quints, one iridescent (on the left), and one not. They look to be very pretty neutrals but I can easily live without these.

Remede Blowout Sale at Bliss!

December 30, 2008

Bliss’s Laboratoire Remede comes at the perfect time since I only yesterday launched my search for that perfect eye cream. Remede’s High Energy Eye Contour has been at the top of “must try” list for some time now, but for one reason or another I haven’t gotten around to trying it yet, and now I’m glad that I waited since it’s marked down from $98 to only $39!

Remede High Energy Eye Contour ($39 from $98)
A wake-up call for tired eyes everywhere, this ingenious mix of high-tech and sea-sourced energizing extracts includes 24-hour hydrators, micro-collagen, anti-wrinkle molecules and — attention all puffy eyed Pams, Paulas, and Peters — Caffeine, which not only acts as a diuretic (for flushing out excessive under-eye fluid) but has been proven to trigger lipolysis (to melt down frustrating under-eye fat pockets). Hey, it works on thighs. Why not try it on eyes?

I picked up two for me since this gets nothing but fabulous reviews and I’m confident that I’ll like it, and two for SO’s mother since she’s currently on the hunt for a new eye cream.

Remede Alchemy Line Minimizing Mask ($26 from $65)
Armed to the teeth with advanced antioxidants, this 10-minute mask is mandatory for anyone over 35 or skin that’s regularly stressed, sunned, sapped by travel or subjected to city life. True to its name, it lessens the look of lines, and helps brighten instantly and over time, hydrate, plump and re-energizie skin.

Picked up two of these–one for mommy, one for SO’s mother. They can both use all the moisture they can get!

Remede Post-Peel Skin-Calming Balm ($16 from $42)
A deep-penetrating plant-based soothing formula with aloe, bisabolol, panthenol, shea butter, sodium hyaluronate and willowherb extract, that instantly calms and conditions skin sensitized by peels, microdermabrasion, regular use of retin-A, or repeated bouts of rosacea. A winter weather ‘must’ for those who participate in more ‘serious’ skincare.

And last but not least I got one of these for my mom to use after her weekly at-home microdermabrasion treatments. She used to use a set from Prescriptives that came with some type of after-treatment lipid cream, but has since stopped repurchasing so I think this will serve as a very nice alternative.

Guerlain Paradis Exotique Spring 2009 Collection Now Online

December 30, 2008
Photobucket

Finally a spring collection that really and truly embodies the spirit of all that is spring! Guerlain’s Spring 2009 Paradis Exotique Collection is comprised of vivid greens, pinks, oranges, and browns, creating the perfect spring color-scheme. And check out that green gloss! Am I the only one who’s dying to see what that looks like on?

Photobucket

Photobucket
Guerlain ‘Ombré Éclat Exotic Paradise’ Eyeshadow Palette ($58)
A garden of delights…. The famous compact designed by Herve Van Der Straeten takes on bucolic tones and bronze hues and is etched with a bird of paradise. Ombré Éclat 4 Shades introduces four radiant and pearly shades, which you can use alone or mix together.

There’s so much I like about Guerlain’s spring release, and this stunning palette is definitely at the top of my list. Everything from the etched exterior of the palette to the elegant interior calls to me. Not that I’ll necessarily be purchasing this, since at $58 it’s quite the splurge!

Photobucket
Guerlain ‘Kiss Kiss’ Gloss ($29)
Forbidden fruit…. Dressed in bronze, specially for spring, come three new glosses with evocative names: Orange Interdite, Cerise Tentation and Pomme du Desir. Perfect for deliciously tempting, fresh and plump lips, veiled in sheer sparkle.

While I usually hate all things orange, Orange Interdite seems to be more of a bright tangerine shade that I’m thinking I can pull off. I’m actually really into all three of these glosses, with Cerise Tentation being my top pick simply for the fact that it looks like such a bright and happy green in the tube, plus I can justify the purchase since I don’t own any green gloss.

PhotobucketPhotobucket
Guerlain ‘Ombré Éclat’ Eyeshadow Primer ($34) and Guerlain ‘Ombré Éclat 1 Shade’ Single Eyeshadow ($34)
Eyeshadow Primer:
The ultimate beauty innovation. Ombré Éclat Eye Primer is composed of smoothing and priming elements, ensuring long-lasting color and a youthful look. By eliminating creases and reviving the eye in one single step, the eyelid is now exquisitely smooth and ready for makeup application.
Single Eyeshadow: Ombré Éclat 1 Shade is the largest single-eyeshadow product on the market. Intense and long-lasting colors allow for light and delicate eye makeup or a more sophisticated, dramatic effect, always with an impeccable finish. Available in many different shades to collect and match according to your mood.

A good shadow primer can work wonders: your makeup will look brighter, wear better, and last longer, all with the simple sweep of an effective primer across your lids. Guerlain’s concept of combining an eyeshadow primer and a reviving eye treatment into one product is therefore pure genius, if it works. I’ll definitely be checking this out!

What do you think of Guerlain’s Spring 2009 release?

How Was Your Christmas?

December 29, 2008
The adorable VooDoo Baby my brother got me.
(Thanks for the info Nicole!)

Scroll all the way down to see what my amazing SO got me!

Mine was fabulous! Seriously one of the best Christmases of my life! I got to cook a delicious meal for family, spend some quality time with all my loved ones, and I received tons of great stuff. What’d I get you ask? Well that little doll in the photo above was part of my brother’s gift to me, along with a Sephora gift card and some other great stuff. Most of my other gifts came in the form of cash (at this point in my life money always makes a great gift!); I got a coat and cashmere scarf from my mother, and the most amazing gift ever from SO! You can almost see it in the background in the photo above–you’ll just have to scroll all the way to find out what it is!

But since this is a beauty blog I guess we’ll get into my Christmas look first. I was wearing OPI’s Don’t Toy With Me layered over Little Red Wagon, but then I decided to go for a more subtle look and applied OPI Sheer Your Toys (picked this OPI holiday polish up for 50% off) topped with a coat of Glamour Game to get the look you see above. Check out a better photo of my nails below!

I wanted to go for a pinky/red and green-themed look but didn’t want anything too wild since my mom’s not a fan of loud eye makeup, so I ended up wearing MAC pigments in Gilded Green and Rose (click here to learn how to press your own pigments) topped with a little (messy) liner for a quick and festive look. And as you can see I’m wearing a TON of mascara!

Okay so onto SO’s Christmas present to me! We’d agreed not to exchange gifts this year and per our agreement we didn’t, but while we were shopping at Nordstrom the next day (12/26/08) we happened upon this gorgeous Chloe Paddington on sale. It was instant love for me but purchasing it was out of the question (the thing retails for $2,125!!!)–I have a major designer bag obsession but thanks to all my Christmas shopping I was flat broke. Out of the blue SO asks me if I’d like it; of course I just thought he was messing with me and brushed it off, but look what I came home with!

Isn’t she gorgeous? Now I have two Chloe’s to love and adore! Needless to say I won’t be receiving another gift from SO for a very very very long time but this gorgeous bag was well worth it!

How was your Christmas?

Diorskin Nude Fresh Glow Powder SPF 10: An ultra light loose powder that invisibly hydrates and gives skin a radiant, natural, fresh glow like ideal, flawless, bare skin.
Nude Powder Foundation Brush: Helps you build on your perfect weightless natural mineral complexion.

I’m digging both this powder and the brush–well especially the brush! From the sound of it it seems like Dior’s venturing into mineral makeup territory, which really isn’t my cup of tea, but since it’s by Dior I’m willing to give it a try!

Sephora Early Access: Bare Escentuals Buxom Lash Mascara

December 24, 2008

I think that at this point we’ve established that I have a major mascara obsession going on–so I’m sure you can imagine how thrilled I was to see this e-mail from Sephora sitting in my inbox. I’ve actually never tried a Bare Escentuals mascara, nor have I felt inclined to, but I can’t resist the chance to preview a new mascara as my deluxe sample. I took the opportunity to order this Bare Escentuals Diamonds Lips set that I’ve been wanting since early October–insert happy dance here! I’m one happy (sneezing) girl tonight.

On a related note, Sephora currently has a ton of great products on sale–go check them out HERE!

MAC Dame Edna and Lash & Dash Collections Now Online

December 24, 2008

I’m a little too frazzled by all of the hubbub of the holidays to get as into these collections as I normally would, but if you’re interested in seeing some Dame Edna swatches click on over HERE. I hope to be able to make it over to MAC at some point to check these collections out in person, but to be honest I have so much on my mind during this time of the year that MAC is probably at the bottom of my list.

That doesn’t mean I won’t be checking out the collections online though! What have you got your eye on?

Chanel Glossimers in Beige Guitare and Wild Rose

With a name like Bohemanian Fantasy I was expecting something a little more whimsical from Chanel’s Spring 2009 collection, but sadly I was a little disappointed. It’s not that the collection isn’t beautiful since everything is supremely wearable and subtle, I just wanted something more springy! My favorite pieces are definitely these two glossimers in Beige Guitare and Wild Rose though. Beige Guitare is a shimmering beigey gold shade that would look stunning on its own or layered over nearly any lipstick, and Wild Rose is a soft rosey shade that gives your lips a beautiful, just pinched look with a touch of shimmer. I can easily see mself indulging in both!

Photobucket

Bohemian Fantasy’s Les 4 Ombres Quad in Mystic Eyes surprised me with its pigmentation since I really wasn’t expecting much from it at all. While I’m not a huge fan of the shades (a dark chocolate, pale frosty pink, silvery gray, and a lighter bronzey brown), they are all very wearable and shades you can easily pull off on a daily basis. Am I wrong in wanting something more fun for the spring though?

So one of my other faves from this collection was this absolutely stunning lip palette. Seriously I saw it and couldn’t stop oohing and aahing–I’m a sucker for a pretty palette! Sadly I didn’t bring this home with me but I’m just dying to get my hands on this Chanel Levres Signes Chanel (Satin Lip Cream) palette. I don’t even have swatches of it for you because I just didn’t have the heart to mar the perfection that is this lip compact by sticking my grubby fingers in it!

What’re your thoughts on Chanel’s spring 2009 Bohemian Fantasy?
