Thing That Make Me Laugh Part 2: HanaHana Nose Shaper

March 31, 2009

Every once in awhile I’ll come across a beauty product that just makes me burst out in crazed laughter–the kind that makes all your co-workers turn and stare at you as though you’ve lost your mind. Case in point:

“Goodsman Hana Hana Nose Shaper is a daily-use item that helps improve the shape of nose. It has silicon pad that helps strengthen nose cartilage. By using it every day for 20 minutes to 1 hour, you will come to see the difference.”

Seriously why have people been bothering with plastic surgery when apparently clothespins work just as well?

Dior Addict High Impact Weightless Lipcolor in #359 (Pink Empress) Review & Swatches

March 31, 2009
Dior Addict High Impact Weightless Lipcolor in #359 Pink Empress ($26)

Dior’s newly formulated Addict High Impact Weightless Lipcolor offers weightless, pigmented high-impact color with a smooth texture that allows it to glide over lips for color that lasts and lasts.

I purchased Pink Empress in order to receive this free Dior Diamond Lipstick Case, and honestly it was well worth it for the lipstick case alone as it’s pretty stunning, so while I wasn’t expecting too too much from the lipstick I must say it’s pretty great, and at a very reasonable price point too! I swatched all the shades before settling on Pink Express, a shimmery pearly shade that’s pinky with some rose tones to it.

The shade is a little brighter than it appears to be in the photo above–pinks are tough to photograph! The new Dior Addict formula feels very lightweight and somewhat slick and slippery on the lips, yet manages to stay put for hours on end. I wore my Dior Addict in Pink Empress a few days back and it lasted through a light snack, tennis and basketball, and dinner.

Dior Addict, while not really drying, isn’t all that moisturizing either. I’d say that my lips remain comfortable while sheathed in this pretty pink shade, but not really hydrated.

It’s actually a softer pink in person–the close up below is a much more accurate color representation.

My mother and I both happen to be big fans of Dior lipsticks~they come in a great range of shades and formulas, and the packaging is always absolutely beautiful. These are the types of lipsticks that you’d be proud to pull out and reapply at any time. At $26 I really think that they’re very decently priced, and considering that they’re lightweight yet pigmented, have great shimmer and shine, and are long lasting, I don’t see why you wouldn’t want to check these out!

Mascara Series Part 24: Max Factor 2000 Calorie Extreme Lash Plumper Mascara Review & Photos

March 31, 2009
Max Factor 2000 Calorie Extreme Lash Plumper Mascara

The Claim: Max Factor’s 2000 Calorie Extreme Lash Plumper mascara promises extreme lash plumping, plain and simple,by fattening your lashes for a thick, dramatic look.

The Brush: Since its release, many have poo-pooed 2000 Calorie Extreme as being a CoverGirl LashBlast knock-off, myself included, but i was still more than happy to try this after Nicole was sweet enough to send it to me, and I’m so glad that she did! The super-sized brush is indeed quite similar to LashBlast’s, with its rubbery bristles and, of course, massive size. The spacing of the bristles makes for easy coating of each lash, and while the brush can be a bit cumbersome to maneuver, especially for smaller eyes, I do think that it’s manageable once you learn your way around it.

The Formula: At first blush I wasn’t all that wowed by the formula–it was nice but a little natural looking for my liking. BUT one morning I happened to apply one coat of mascara, move away from my vanity to look for my LashBlast to compare, ended up not finding it, then applied a second coat of 2000 Calorie Extreme over the now dry first coat, and va-va-va-vom! Serious serious volume–I’m talking luscious, thick, fat lashes that you just can’t stop admiring. 2000 Calorie Extreme isn’t all that exceptional in terms of length and curl (mediocre length, not so great curl), but the volume is just killer and makes the macara worth checking out for that aspect alone. Sadly I do experience just a little bit of flaking with this, but it’s nothing too unbearable.

LOVE the volume!

The Verdict: If you’re pretty set in the length and curl departments and are just looking for some seriously dramatic volume, Max Factor’s 2000 Calorie Extreme Lash Plumper is the mascara for you!

RATING: 3.75/5

Gorgeous MAC Gifts with Lip Swatches and Reviews!

March 30, 2009

A certain somebody chose these three MAC lovelies for me and shipped them to me all the way from Germany! ❤ She got me MAC Cremesheen Lipsticks (from the Creme Team Collection) in Shy Girl and Lickable, and MAC eye shadow in Swish.

Swish is seriously my new favorite pink eyeshadow! I’ve worn it a few times since receiving it and already received several compliments on it. It’s a great pop of color for the eyes that’s got medium pigmentation, and isn’t nearly as bright as it looks to be in the pot. I can’t believe I haven’t checked this out before! I feel like this would be an easy pink for most skintones to pull off.

Shy Girl is a pretty neutral coral beige that has slight orangey undertones. As the name indicates its creamy, has great opaque coverage, and feels beautiful on. It may not be flattering for certain skintones (i.e. if you have strong yellow undertones), but I really like it paired with a smoky eye.

Lickable is a super-bright clean blue pink that makes for a strong, dramatic lippie. It’s definitely a statement lipstick and not for the faint of heart. It’s gorgeous, but I have yet to find the perfect occasion to wear it.

Thanks so much Melanie for these great MAC products! I’ve been having a lot of fun playing around with these and coming up with different eye looks to pair them with. These made great additions to my ever-burgeoning MAC collection!

REN Hydra-Calm Global Protection Day Cream Review

March 30, 2009
REN Hydra-Calm Global Protection Day Cream ($55)

REN’s Hydra-Calm Global Protection Day Cream is a soothing, smoothing, super-emollient day cream packed with essential fatty acids that strengthen your precious skin while replenishing its moisture levels. Formulated with powerful anti-inflammatories, it soothes, calms, and protects reactive skin like mine upon application. It also contains REN’s global protection complex to guard skin from oxidation and free radical damage.

Omega 3 and 7 help repair and strenghten skin while reducing irritation and inflammation. Bisabolol and Calendula soothe and calm sensitive skin, while REN’s Global Protection Complex with its synergistic blend of powerful anti-oxidants and free radical scavengers helps purify the skin and protect it against chronic inflammation and premature ageing.

REN products just make my skin sing with happiness-rarely do I love pretty much each and every product that I try from a single line, but REN is truly wonderful, and the Hydra-Calm Global Day Cream is no exception. It’s great for sensitive, environmentally reactive skin (i.e. those of you who live in the city and have to deal with massive amounts of pollution) or delicate and fair complexions prone to sensitivity or redness (me!).

I love having a cream that comes in pump form so that I don’t have to deal with the messiness of sticing my fingers in a jar (am I the only one who has issues with getting products under her nails?). REN’s Hydra-Calm strikes that happy medium between a hydrating moisturizer and a just-thick-enough cream, and also makes an ideal mixing medium for REN’s serumes which are oil-based (and amazing). The cream is great for winter when my skin needs that extra bit of moisture for both day and night, smells great, and doesn’t break me out, clog my pores, or cause irritation. Plus I think that this in conjunction with REN’s Rose Synergy Serum has helped to significantly calm my redness.

I’m going to switch to something lighter during the summer, but next winter I’ll definitely be repurchasing!

  • My current favorite winter product is REN’s Rose Synergy O12 Restoring Facial Serum–see my review HERE.
  • My other favorite oil serum is REN’s Omega 3 Overnight Lipid Renewal Serum–review HERE.

Lumene Vitamin C+ Energy Cocktail Intensive Care Review

March 30, 2009
Lumene Vitamin C+Energy Cocktail Intensive Care ($19.99)

Velvety soft intensive care soothes your skin and maintains its suppleness. Abundant natural antioxidants in the Arctic cloudberry seed oil and caring cranberry seed oil protect skin from stress factors. Together with vitamin C, which protects skin, and skin-softening vitamin A, these active ingredients work in perfect harmony with your skin to give it optimum care.
  • Arctic cloudberry seed oil strengthens and protects the skin from external and internal stress factors.
  • Arctic cranberry seed oil protects skin from UV rays, prevents premature aging and retains the skin’s moisture balance.
  • VitaOptimaleTM compound gives optimum care for skin: Vitamin C protects, vitamin A strengthens and softens skin.

On the left is what it looks like before shaking, on the right is after shaking.

Lumene’s Energy Cocktail is a fun-looking two-toned cocktail of great-for-your-skin ingredients that’s fairly light as oil serums go. The Cocktail separates into two distinct colors(ooh pretty!) and must be shaken prior to use. See the photo below to see what I mean:

Small squirt of Energy Cocktail. Kinda looks like a UFO egg no?

I purchased my Energy Cocktail for around $10 on sale at CVS months and months ago, and while I do like it, I don’t happen to think that there’s anything particularly spectular about it that would prompt repurchasing. It is an oil serum but it’s not nearly as moisturizing as others I’ve tried, nor does it give me the luminosity or glow that other products do.

Blending…

All in all I’d say this is a decent option if you’re looking to try an affordable oil serum, and a lot of peopel seem to absolutely love this so it’s definitely worth a shot, but if you’re willing to splurge I highly recommend checking ou REN’s two oil serums, the Omegao 3 and the Rose Synergy (see my reviews HERE and HERE), both of which are pretty fabulous.

All blended!

I think I’ll be saving this for summer when my face doesn’t get nearly as dry as it does in the cold winter weather–I’m thinking I may notice more of a difference when my skin isn’t nearly as parched. For now I’ll be sticking to my REN serums and testing out Josie Maran’s Argan Oil (thanks so much Nicole for this!!) so expect a review shortly!

SoftLips Review & Giveaway!

March 28, 2009

ENTER TO WIN:

  • SoftLips Pure Pomegranate Organic Lip Conditioner
  • SoftLips Raspberry Lip Protectant (Value Pack)
  • SoftLips Vanilla Lip Protectant (Value Pack)
  • SoftLips Cherry Lip Protectant (Value Pack)
  • SoftLips Tinted Lip Conditioner in Bronze

Scroll down to find out how, and of course be sure to check out my SoftLips review!

  • SoftLips Pure Pomegranate Organic Lip Conditioner: In my opinion the best product from the SoftLips line, the Pure Lip Conditioners are 99% organic, come in the two yummy yummy flavors of Pomegranate and Honeydew, and most importantly, are very hydrating and long lasting. They don’t give off the menthol/tingling sensation that the other SoftLips products do, but I happen to adore these. A great, affordable option for chapped winter lips!

  • SoftLips Flavored Lip Protectants (Value Pack): I love that these are SPF 20 (which the Organic ones obviously aren’t), come in a great range of flavors (I love strawberry), are light, hydrating, and leave a nice cooling sensation. These are what I reach for come summer-time. I used to be so obsessed with these back in high school and I’m so happy to have rediscovered them!

Swatches of SoftLips Tinted Lip Conditioners in Rose & Bronze

  • SoftLips Tinted Lip Conditioner in Bronze: I own the Tinted Lip Conditioners in both Rose & Bronze and they’re both pretty for a bit of shimmery color. I must say that I don’t like them nearly as much as I do the other SoftLips products though, as they’re a bit harder/grittier feeling and not really all that moisturizing. The colors also lean towards being a bit frosty.

Coming To A Sephora Near You: Lindsay Lohan’s Sevin Nyne Tanning Mist

March 27, 2009

Did you know Lindsay Lohan is launching a line of self-tanning products? I sure didn’t, but lookie what I found on the Sephora site:

With a gorgeous, golden glow as her ultimate beauty accessory, actress/singer Lindsay Lohan introduces Sevin Nyne Tanning Mist—her sunless secret to achieving a flawless tan. In collaboration with celebrity airbrush tanner Lorit, the two worked together to make a luxurious tanning mist that was once only available to Lorit’s celebrity clients. Infused with Goji Berry extract, known for its powerful antioxidant properties, and Chardonnay extracts to help keep the skin hydrated, Sevin Nyne Tanning Mist provides an even, natural looking tan conveniently delivered in an easy-to-use, environmentally friendly aerosol can.

“I have tried every tanning product on the market and worked with the best tanners in the business. When Lorit and I met, we thought it would be great to bring a quality product at a reasonable price to the market so everyone could enjoy a professional spray tan,” Lohan said.

Named after Lohan’s lucky numbers 7 and 9, the dynamic duo hopes to encourage men and women to stay out of the sun and “cherish their skin.” In fact, a portion of the proceeds benefits skin cancer awareness charities. So go ahead, spray yourself healthy and feel good about it.

Tanning Mist ($35)
A star-quality sunless tanner. Sevin Nyne Tanning Mist brings you a red-carpet-ready glow, courtesy of Lindsay Lohan and tanning expert, Lorit Simon. This easy-to-use, airbrush-style formula creates a natural, caramel-infused kiss of color. You will fall in love with your flawless tan and the delectable fragrance that comes with it—forget the typical spray tan scent. This brilliant bronzing essential provides a dose of antioxidant-rich goji berry extract, for healthy, gorgeous skin. It comes in a recyclable aluminum can, does not contain CFCs, and is not animal tested.
