Drugstore Discoveries: Clean & Clear Makeup Dissolving Foaming Cleanser Review

July 28, 2009
Clean & Clear Makeup Dissolving Foaming Cleanser – Oil Free ($7.99)
Some soaps can over-dry your skin. New CLEAN & CLEAR® Makeup Dissolving Foaming Cleanser has a rich lathering foam that gently lifts away dirt and makeup without leaving an oily residue. This oil-free formula is gentle enough for daily use.

Nicole introduced me to this after I introduced her to the wonders of Clean & Clear’s Soothing Eye Makeup Remover (review HERE – the stuff is seriously awesome!) and so now having officially tried all of the items in Clean & Clear’s makeup removing/dissolving line (all the stuff that comes in white & purple packaging) I can without hesitation say that it’s all pretty amazing! You already know how I feel about the Eye Makeup Remover, and how much I love the Facial Cleansing Wipes (review HERE), and this foaming cleanser is just one more Clean & Clear product that I’m mighty surprised to find myself raving about.

This is one of those ‘starts off as a liquid and dispenses as foam’ products, which I’m usually not crazy about as the foams tend to be weak, puny little things that re-collapse into their liquid forms without offering any real satisfying foamy action, but Clean & Clear’s is actually a nice, silky feeling foam that seems to be able to retain its foamy goodness during use. I usually need to use multiple cleansers to remove my makeup, but unless I’m wearing some ridiculously heavy-duty mascara, this slim, affordable bottle of purple goodness eradicates any and all makeup remnants while leaving my skin feeling as soft and smooth as a baby’s bottom.

I like a good, rich foam so I tend to use two to three pumps of this cleanser at a time, but the results really do speak for themselves. This doesn’t dry out or irritate my sensitive skin and does exactly what it’s supposed to do – remove stubborn face makeup in one go. If you’re at a drugstore be sure to check out this entire Clean & Clear line as it’s really wonderful (although I’d exercise caution with the products not from this line as some have broken me out terribly)!

Drugstore Discoveries: Clean & Clear Makeup Dissolving Facial Cleansing Wipes Review

July 14, 2009
Clean & Clear Makeup Dissolving Facial Cleansing Wipes ($5.99 for 25)
These convenient, pre-moistened oil-free wipes instantly dissolve all traces of dirt, oil and makeup deep down to the pores. They even remove waterproof mascara. In one easy step, your skin is left perfectly clean and refreshed with no oily residue, so there’s no need to rinse.

Say hello to yet another wonderful product from Clean & Clear that’s wallet friendly, and like the eye makeup remover I raved about HERE, comparable to a higher end product (in this case MAC’s makeup wipes). The Makeup Dissolving Facial Cleansing Wipes have become a staple for me, in large part because after a late night at work or out with friends (or just watching Eureka on my laptop) I’m often too lazy to wash my face. These have saved me on many an occasion!

Lazy butt that I am I always having these sitting by my bedside table within easy reach should I already be lying down in bed — I can just feel around blindly for these without having to get up! The packaging is utilitarian and basic, no frills here. You get a plastic packet with a lift up sticker that seals in moisture, nothing at all fancy about it.

And what makes these makeup removing wipes so great? Well first of all the wipes are large enough to use on the entire face: one wipe is sufficient to remove every last bit of makeup, although I do like to use a separate remover for my more stubborn mascaras. What’s also simply fabulous is the texture of these wipes. They have this weave to them that makes them almost like a light fabric and the texture really snags every last bit of foundation/eye makeup/other mess you may have gunked on your face leaving your complexion feeling cleansed and refreshed.

Close-up of the material.

These are contact-wearer friendly and definitely something I’d suggest checking out should you happen to be at a drugstore in the near future (I believe that I saw these on sale at Duane Reade sometime last week). Between these Makeup Dissolving Wipes and the Soothing Eye Makeup Remover, Clean & Clear has really been impressing me. Plus Nicole told me that their foaming face wash (the one that’s purple and looks like the eye makeup remover) is pretty great too – it’s next on my list of things to check out!

Drugstore Discoveries: Clean & Clear Soothing Eye Makeup Remover Review (and a Quick Bi-Facil Comparison)

July 6, 2009
Clean & Clear Soothing Eye Makeup Remover ($5.99)
CLEAN & CLEAR® Soothing Eye Makeup Remover gently conditions as it dissolves long-wear eye makeup. Its oil-free formula, infused with a combination of cucumber extracts and aloe vera, soothes and refreshes the delicate skin around the eyes.

I’m ashamed to admit that I’m terrible about removing my eye makeup, mostly because it’s just so tough to remove. But when I did reach for an eye makeup remover, it was always Lancome’s Bi-Facil; it’s pricey ($26 for 4.2 oz as opposed to $5.99 for 5.5 oz), leaves me feeling greasy and irritates my eyes a little bit but I’d always heard it was the best out there. Well I’ve now found an alternative that’s dirt cheap, readily available and simply superb at removing even the most stubborn waterproof mascaras and eyeliners (even my Majolica Majorca which nothing has been able to remove until now) ~ Clean & Clear’s Soothing Eye Makeup Remover.

What I Love: I’ve actually had this sitting around on my vanity for a number of months now. To be honest I figured since it was cheap it wouldn’t be any good and wasn’t really planning on using this (it was given to me by a friend) but this is some seriously great stuff! Just like the Lancom Bi-Facil, I shake the bottle to mix up the dual-phase formula, soak a cotton pad with the remover, press the cotton pad to my eye for 15-20 seconds and then voila, even the most stubborn eye makeup melts right off! I’ve tried many many eye makeup removers, and this is definitely one of the best, especially for the price!

Not So Much: The packaging could be a little better, but I guess for $5.99 I really shouldn’t be complaining. Other than that I really can’t find anything wrong with Clear & Clear’s Soothing Eye Makeup Remover–it really is that good!

Am I the only one who loves bi-phase products? It’s so much fun to shake them up!

The Verdict: If you’re a fan of Lancome’s Bi-Facil but can’t stomach the price, Clean & Clear’s Soothing Eye Makeup Remover is an amazing alternative! The oil-free formula is non-irritating, doesn’t leave an oily film over your eye area, feels less greasy than Lancome’s formula, and most importantly, gently removes even the most budge-proof eye products. My inner (much-supressed I swear!) beauty snob cringes a little at how much I love this stuff, but you can’t argue with results!

And in case you’re curious, the INGREDIENTS:
Water, Cyclopentasiloxane, Cyclohexasiloxane, Benzyl Alcohol, Dipropylene Glycol, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Sodium Chloride, Poloxamer 182, Tripotassium EDTA, Benzalkonium Chloride, Allantoin, Dipotassium Phosphate, Potassium Phosphate, Propylene Glycol, Cucumis Sativus Fruit Extract (Cucumber)

Drugstore Discoveries: Clean & Clear Deep Action Exfoliating Scrub Review

October 27, 2008

It’s been years and years since I’ve laid hands on a Clean & Clear skincare product, but this little tube of goodness came attached to Clean & Clear’s oil absorbing papers (a spur of the moment purchase) so I decided to give it a try.

I’ll admit that I’m horribly snobbish when it comes to beauty products. I tend to prefer high-end expensive products just because I find that they usually work better for me, but Clean & Clear’s Deep Action Exfoliating Scrub is pretty wonderful and a serious bargain at only $4.99!

While this is an exfoliating product, it’s gentle enough to use as an everyday cleanser since the exfoliating beads aren’t that harsh, nor are there that many of them. Yes the exfoliating beads could be a little smaller, and if you wanted to use this as a weekly scrub rather than a daily product, you’d probably want for there to be more of them, but all in all this is a remarkably good product.

I like to use this in conjunction with my Clarisonic because even though they recommend that you not use it with scrubs, this one really is gentle enough for my skin, or just on its own when my skin is feeling a little scaly. The Deep Action Exfoliating Scrub gives off an intense cooling sensation that I love and really leaves my skin feeling cooled and refreshed in the mornings.

I just had to come back and add one thing–there’s a cream cleanser from this Deep Clean line that’s absolutely TERRIBLE so stay away from it!
