Bits Brought Home From Cali

February 2, 2010

I’ve been looking back through my monthly archives for 2010, and I’ve been a bad, bad blogger. I’m dreadfully behind on reviews and comments, still haven’t had a chance to put together the forum, and I promise I haven’t forgotten about that massive giveaway I posted about. But I’m going to take this week to attempt to get caught up on all of these things so don’t give up on me just yet. In the meantime, I wanted to share some photos of all the wonderful goodies I brought back with me from California – some purchased by yours truly, others gifted to me by the wonderful Cathy. More details and photos (including a sparkly beaded headband and a super-cute, super-cheap pair of booties) after the jump!

Cathy welcomed me to California with a fantastic package full of goodies including Mario Badescu’s Silver Powder (I’ve been meaning to try this for years now) and Fairy Drops Platinum Mascara (such cute packaging!). As for the Epicuren Glycolic Skin Peel – we ran into this lady at Walgreens (maybe it was Rite Aid) one night and she just raved about how this had completely eliminated her pores and so of course we had to run to Larchmont Beauty to try it for ourselves. Review to come!

I picked up this really cute beaded headband from Anthropologie ($32) to wear to my cousin’s wedding as my hair was a bit of a disaster that day. My only styling tools were a blowdryer and a comb so I needed a little something to distract from all the mess.

Cathy picked up these boots for me from Forever 21 of all places – I rarely shop there as it’s a madhouse and not really my cup of tea – who knew they made such cute, insanely inexpensive shoes? I think these were $27.50 or so, and not only are they exactly what I’ve been looking for, but they’re pretty comfy to boot. LOVE these!

And Cathy and I also got these dainty matching bracelets while shopping at The Grove, this great outdoor shopping mall. All in all it was a whirlwind three days and I was so sad to leave (especially knowing that I had to go back to work).

What have you all been up to during the past two months that I’ve been neglecting ABS? Any new developments? We need to catch up!

Beautiful, Sunny (Somewhat) LA

January 26, 2010

Sadly it was a little rainy when I arrived at LAX (I had been hoping to enjoy some warm Cali weather) but at least there were the remnants of a quickly disappearing rainbow to greet me. Lucky for me, the weather cleared up rather nicely and the remainder of my 2.5 day stay was full of gorgeous, sunny (albeit rather chilly) weather.

One of the most beautiful places that I visited was the Getty Museum. My friend Cathy and I arrived a little after 5 PM (literally 20 minutes or so prior to closing) and the setting sun made for the most stunning photographic backdrop.

More photos after the jump!

I haven’t had a chance to take photos of my purchases yet (they were pretty few and far between as I was trying to be good) but hopefully you’ll be hearing all about those tomorrow. I did get to check out this AMAZING beauty mecca called Larchmont Beauty that makes me want to move out to LA so that I can shop there every day. They carry every product known to man and a ton of really hard-to-find brands that people like me scour the city for. If you’re in the area, definitely check it out and if you’ve been there be sure to share!

A Belated Merry Christmas to You All!

December 29, 2009

Hey everyone! So I’m back from my little holiday hiatus (which really wasn’t much of a hiatus – I just couldn’t find the time to blog as work has been a madhouse) with some amazing new products and fun new ABS developments (including a big giveaway) coming your way very soon.

The lovely Nicole sent me the most amazing Christmas package and of course I had to share! She included:

  • Chanel Rouge Allure Laque in Dragon (seriously the most gorgeous red I’ve ever seen)
  • OPI DS Nail Lacquer in Reserve
  • Cle de Peau concealer (this has been on my wishlist for YEARS!)
  • Amore Pacific Clarifying Mask (smells yummy)
  • and a bunch of fun Hello Kitty goodies that really brighten up my office space

My other big Christmas gift came from the SO in the form of a Flip, which will finally enable me to post some (hopefully) great quality videos up on the ABS YouTube channel.

More photos (and details on my cute Flip skin) after the jump!

I’ve been lusting after the OPI Designer Series polishes since receiving DS Fantasy (photos here) and know that Reserve is going to be just as drool-worthy.

Chanel’s Rouge Allure Laques have a wonderfully creamy formula and are amazingly long-wearing – I loved Ming (photo here) and Dragon is one of the most stunning reds I’ve ever seen and pretty much universally flattering. My dear friend Cathy gave it a shot last night and it looked stunning on her.

I love Amore’s Treatment Enzyme Peel and I now have this Clarifying Masque which leaves my face looking toned, smooth and radiant. And it doesn’t hurt that it smells delicious to boot.

Cle de Peau’s concealer has long been hailed as the holy grail of concealers, and thanks to Nicole’s generosity I finally have it in my hands. It’s painfully small for something that’s so painfully expensive, but I’ve been playing with it for the past few days and it’s definitely living up to the hype thus far.

And now for the Flip! 🙂 I’ve been wanting one for the longest time so that I could post some HD videos for you on YouTube (I’ve been thinking of doing videos of my favorite pink lipsticks, product reviews, demonstrations, swatches, etc.) and the SO was kind enough to oblige. I ordered myself a skin from DecalGirl and now I’m good to go!

How have the holidays been treating you? Share with me in the comments!

Nail Swatches of MAC’s Baby Goth Girl & A Few Others

October 1, 2009

More stunning close-up shots courtesy of Charm Candy aka Tori, this time of MAC’s Baby Goth Girl Nail Lacquer from their Style Black collection ~ you asked for nail swatches, she delivered, how great is she?

Baby Goth Girl is a black polish with lots of pinkish purple shimmer – according to Tori it’s hard to capture on camera but I think she did an amazing job. After having seen her photos I’m dying to get my hands on a bottle!

Left to Right: China Glaze Flying Dragon, China Glaze On the Prowl, Essie Sexy Divide, MAC Baby Goth Girl

And since purple is currently my “it” color, Tori was kind enough to send me a few shots of some gorgeous purple polishes. Check out some close-ups (and one seriously cool holographic polish) after the jump!

China Glaze in IDK

I’d actually been meaning to purchase this gorgeous purpley lavender holographic polish for the longest time but had never quite gotten around to it, but Tori’s photo lit the fire under me and I finally placed my order! I picked up a few other holographic polishes so be on the lookout for that post – my package is slated to arrive today. I’ve heard that China Glaze’s holographic polishes look AMAZING coupled with the Konad.

China Glaze Tantalize Me

I love that Tantalize Me seems to have a slight duochrome blue sheen to it, at least in the photo. Definitely a nice almost-but-not-quite-pink option for my pink-loving self!

MAC Dazzleglass Creme Swatches

September 28, 2009

More gorgeous swatches from the wonderful Charm Candy, aka Tori, this time of the hot new MAC Dazzleglass Cremes ~ her photography skills are fabulous, I nominate her as the official ABS photographer!

As labeled, we have swatches of Do It Up, My Favourite Pink, Perfectly Unordinary and Soft Dazzle taken with and without flash.

I can’t review these for you as I haven’t yet had a chance to check them out myself, but from the looks of these photos I think My Favourite Pink is definitely calling my name! Seriously, how can you resist a gloss with a name like that? It’s making quite the claim and hopefully it loves up to it.

Have you tried any of the Dazzleglass Cremes yet? Any favorites emerging?

On a completely unrelated note, I finally had a chance to stop by the Jill Stuart boutique to check out the US launch of their cosmetics line this past weekend and of course I hauled a few items to share with you. Photos to come at some point this week!

Up Close & Personal with Barbie Loves Stila Smudge Pot in Purple Pumps

September 28, 2009

Purple Pumps was the one Stila Smudge Pot I had my eye on (before I discovered the amazingness that is Little Black Dress) and so I was understandably disappointed when I noticed that the display at Sephora was missing the tester ~ but the wonderful Tori (of Charm Candy, a fabulous Juicy Couture Charm Resource) was sweet enough to send me a product photo and swatches. Have I mentioned lately that I absolutely adore my readers?

Swatch of Purple Pumps with flash.

Swatch of Purple Pumps sans flash.

It’s just as gorgeous as I’d imagined it would be (check out the enlarged shot of Purple Pumps in the pot by clicking the photo above – it’s got gorgeous flecks of glimmer in it) but I’ve still got my heart set on acquiring Little Black Dress. Not that I’d mind owning all three of these beauties!

Be sure to check out the rest of my Barbie Loves Stila collection swatches, and of course don’t forget to enter my giveaway to win the All Doll’d Up Palette and L’Oreal Telescopic Explosion Mascara!

February 13, 2009

I’ve been dying to get a better look at some of the Hello Kitty accessories, but thanks to the insanity that’s been my life this week I haven’t been able to find the time–but thanks to Nicole I’ve been inundated with all the cute Hello Kitty for MAC accessory photos that I can handle! I’m so jealous of her fabulous haul!

LOVING this Hello Kitty purse mirror–it’s adorable!

I didn’t think much of this keychain/mirror thingy when I saw it in the promo images, but I’m seriously wishing I’d picked it up!

This train case is TDF! Interior dividers, brush slots, and pink lining–heaven!

Sorry I have been as “blog-focused” as I usually am~~things have just been insane at the office this week and while I’ve been thinking of you all constantly, finding the actual time to take photos, upload them, then crop & edit them and compose a post has been more than my exhausted brain can handle. But come this weekend it will once again be all about you my wonderful A Beautyful Sentiment readers!! Hopefully I can have a Valentine’s Day FOTD tutorial up or something!

Thanks so much Nicole for sharing your MAC Hello Kitty haul with all of us! Now for the rest of you–what did you end up with?

Some Caron And Some Sharing

October 15, 2008
Check out Nicole‘s Caron haul below!

Caron overload! She got loose powder in Gitane, a travel loose powder compact, kabuki brush, and a peach swansdown puff plus lots of samples!

Ooooh shiny!

Fluffy pink goodness! (okay technically peach but I say pink)

AND…Nicole also sent me along some great lush stuff! Now greedy little monster that I am I tore into the package and used most of the items before I got to photograph them (which may or may not be why the shampoo bar below looks a little loved) but I grabbed what was in my room and took a photo for you! There was so much more good stuff in there!

La Prairie powder sample (love), Lush Godmother Soap (yummm!!!) and Lush Godiva Shampoo Bar (I’ll be reviewing this for you at some point)

Thanks for the photos and the wonderful package Nicole! xoxoxo

Photos From Lancome Le Magnetique Winner Deb!

October 12, 2008

Our September Giveaway winner Deb was kind enough to share a photo of and review of Lancome’s Le Magnetique Design Etoil Nail Lacquer. Thanks so much Deb!! ❤

Read on to see what she thought!

“The polish itself if extremely nice. I normally use OPI, so I compare any new polishes to that. The formula went on very smoothly and I got good coverage with one coat. I also was impressed with the brush. OPI has their ProWide brush. I love that brush and I find the skinny, round brushes most other polishes use very hard to work with. However, I noticed Lancome used a decently wide, flat brush which made use very easy. I am impressed. Making the star was easy enough. It looks amazing when it catches the light! Even if you didn’t want to use the magnet, the color is quite lovely. It’s a rich creamy burgundy with just a hint of shimmer. I love it, and it’s perfect for fall.”

Deb I’m so glad that you’re enjoying the polish and thanks for being so wonderful!
