A Belated Merry Christmas to You All!

December 29, 2009

Hey everyone! So I’m back from my little holiday hiatus (which really wasn’t much of a hiatus – I just couldn’t find the time to blog as work has been a madhouse) with some amazing new products and fun new ABS developments (including a big giveaway) coming your way very soon.

The lovely Nicole sent me the most amazing Christmas package and of course I had to share! She included:

  • Chanel Rouge Allure Laque in Dragon (seriously the most gorgeous red I’ve ever seen)
  • OPI DS Nail Lacquer in Reserve
  • Cle de Peau concealer (this has been on my wishlist for YEARS!)
  • Amore Pacific Clarifying Mask (smells yummy)
  • and a bunch of fun Hello Kitty goodies that really brighten up my office space

My other big Christmas gift came from the SO in the form of a Flip, which will finally enable me to post some (hopefully) great quality videos up on the ABS YouTube channel.

More photos (and details on my cute Flip skin) after the jump!

I’ve been lusting after the OPI Designer Series polishes since receiving DS Fantasy (photos here) and know that Reserve is going to be just as drool-worthy.

Chanel’s Rouge Allure Laques have a wonderfully creamy formula and are amazingly long-wearing – I loved Ming (photo here) and Dragon is one of the most stunning reds I’ve ever seen and pretty much universally flattering. My dear friend Cathy gave it a shot last night and it looked stunning on her.

I love Amore’s Treatment Enzyme Peel and I now have this Clarifying Masque which leaves my face looking toned, smooth and radiant. And it doesn’t hurt that it smells delicious to boot.

Cle de Peau’s concealer has long been hailed as the holy grail of concealers, and thanks to Nicole’s generosity I finally have it in my hands. It’s painfully small for something that’s so painfully expensive, but I’ve been playing with it for the past few days and it’s definitely living up to the hype thus far.

And now for the Flip! 🙂 I’ve been wanting one for the longest time so that I could post some HD videos for you on YouTube (I’ve been thinking of doing videos of my favorite pink lipsticks, product reviews, demonstrations, swatches, etc.) and the SO was kind enough to oblige. I ordered myself a skin from DecalGirl and now I’m good to go!

In the Window: Louis Vuitton Fifth Ave Holiday 2009

December 7, 2009

While shopping the Bergdorf Gift Card Event last week (during which I picked up a few Chanel items for giveaway on the blog) I couldn’t resist stopping by the Louis Vuitton boutique across the street – you all know my bag addiction is just about as bad as my makeup addiction!

I’m loving their travel-theme holiday windows, primarily because I’m pretty obsessed with Louis Vuitton luggage and dream of owning a massive vintage trunk that I can use as a coffee table. Check out the rest of the photos after the jump!

Comings soon ~ the Bergdorf Goodman edition of my In the Window series! Their Alice in Wonderland-themed 2009 holiday windows are pure whimsy and totally drool-worthy.

Guerlain Meteorites in ‘Perles Imperiales’ for Imperial Holiday 2009

November 8, 2009

Rarely do I tell you that a product is a must-have for me, but if you love high end makeup and beautiful products, the Guerlain ‘Meteorites’ in Perles Imperiales ($53) really do fall into that category. For a quick video review, check out this YouTube review I did of the Perles Imperiales Meteorites, and but don’t forget to read on for more info and lots of photos!

This close-up of the Perles Imperialies up above is probably one of my favorite cosmetics photos I’ve taken – it’s so pretty that I’ve even made it the wallpaper on my iPhone!

More photos including swatches and the full review after the jump.

The 2009 Perles Imperialies Meteorites come in this dramatic, expensive-looking jet-black packaging (some Meteorites packaging can tend to look a little cheap and cardboardy but not this rendition) decorate with faux-crystals and shimmery bits and house pearls in soft ivory, orangey gold, pink and lavender.

Swirl the pearls together and you’re left with a soft pink highlighter that’s subtle but brings a nice glow to your face. I wouldn’t recommend purchasing these to use as a blush unless you’re Snow White pale, but as a soft pink highlighter they’re absolutely gorgeous – no chunky glitter, no crazy shine, just a soft, subtle glow that’ll light up your face. And of course the usual delicious Guerlain violet scent which I’m oh so enamored of.

I like to pair this with my Chanel Narcisse blush (there’s a review of it somewhere on the blog – I’ll just say that this is my HG blush and I use it almost every day) – first Narcisse on my cheeks, then Perles Imperiales pretty much everywhere else for some subtle glowy shimmer. Part of the appeal of Guerlain’s Meteorites, at least for me, is the luxury of swirling my brushes across such a beautiful, delicately-scented surface and applying the silky powder to my face, but honestly the pearls themselves aren’t a bad deal at $53. I know my fellow Meteorites owners can attest to the fact that you’ll never make a dent in these – I have some I’ve been using for ages and they look as new/full as the day I bought them.

Which is all my roundabout way of saying ~ if you’ve been wanting Guerlain’s Perles Imperiales Meteorites, go get them! They embody everything that I love about holiday cosmetics releases – luxurious shimmering packaging, beautiful colors, and that special quality that just brings a smile to your face. These definitely get a thumbs up from me!

These Meteorites were sent to me by Guerlain’s PR people to blog consideration. I probably would’ve purchased them myself as it was quite literally love at first swatch – the gorgeous shades of the pearls, the amazing violet scent and the stunning holiday packaging – it’s just all too gorgeous!

Guerlain Rouge G de Guerlain #11 ‘Grace’ Jewel Lipstick Compact from ‘Imperial Holiday’ 2009

November 5, 2009

Guerlain ‘Le Rouge G de Guerlain’ Lipstick in Grace #11 ($45) is one of the two limited edition holiday shades (the other being #12 Gems) available from their 2009 ‘Imperial Holiday’ release. The original case was designed by jeweller Lorenz Baumer, and the holiday packaging is enhanced by the addition of a black jewel clasp.

You already know that I’m a fan of the Rouge G formula – the ruby powder in them really gives them some gorgeous shimmer under sunlight, they last a good 4-5 hours, are creamy, pigmented, nourishing and non-drying, and all-around wear beautifully.

So how did I feel about Grace? Find out after the jump (and check out a ton of photos including lip swatches)!

Let’s just say that for me, Grace is that perfect lipstick I never knew that I needed, but now can’t imagine being without. While it’s probably not ideal for those of you with very pigmented lips, on my lips this is a medium pink with slight beigey brown undertones and gorgeous understated shimmer that really just makes my lips look lush and polished. It’s got that subtle ‘my lips but better’ quality to it that’s made it my go-to lipstick for basically any and every occasion.

While I love my engraved Rouge G that I picked up at Bergdorf for myself, this gem-adorned holiday packaging definitely rivals it to for top spot amongst my lippies!

While Grace may not look like much in the tube, I’d definitely check it out for yourself should you happen to find yourself near a Guerlain counter – it definitely surprised me! I’m constantly pulling mine out to reapply throughout the day and to admire my glistening lips in the attached mirror.

This review contains a press sample sent to ABS by the brand’s PR representative for blog consideration. I probably wouldn’t have picked this up as it looks a little brown in the tube, but boy would I have been missing out! Again why I love press samples – they give me the opportunity to try products I would never go for.

Guerlain #407 Bal de Nuit Eye Shadow Palette Ombre Eclat Quad for ‘Imperial Holiday’ 2009 Review & Swatches

November 2, 2009

The Limited Edition Guerlain ‘Bal de Nuit’ Eyeshadow Palette for Holiday 2009 ($58) juxtaposes softness and intensity in a rich, smoky, luminescent quad of shadows to create a modern smoky eye for this holiday season.

The golden palette comes sheathed in a black boudoir-style pouch that wears the black lace logo present on almost all of the 2009 holiday pieces, and while the exterior is gorgeous, the interior is really a sight to behold!

See my close-up shots of the shadows, swatches, and more on the palette after the jump!

As you can see, the beautiful scroll design is carried through to the interior of the palette which houses 2 beautiful silver applicators. Even the housing for the shadows is unique – a shimmering midnight black that really highlights the shimmer in the shadows themselves.

Clockwise from the top left we have a shimmering white that contains the softest tinge of gold, a pale pale lingerie pink, the perfect shade of taupe and a deeper taupey brown. The top two shades run a little sheerer than the bottom two, which I’m sure comes as no surprise, but the lower two shades really pack quite a punch.

I’ve literally been using this palette non-stop since receiving it, primarily for some of the more formal events that I’ve been going to. All four shades are so classic that they’re really perfect for an elegant evening eye. I like to wear the white on the inner corner of my eyes, then sweep the pink all over, outline my outer V with the taupe (this is seriously the prettiest taupes I’ve seen and so so flattering!) and then finish with the brown as liner.

While the shades are definitely dupeable, I love having these four coordinating shades in one palette for easy portability. I’ve been wearing the Bal de Nuit quad layered over my Jill Stuart Jelly in Moon Shadow as a base (for some added shimmer and drama) and have been receiving so many compliments on my eyes as of late!

I wouldn’t say this is a must-have for those of you who already have shades that are quite similar to these (which I’m sure many of you do), but I definitely see the Bal de Nuit quad serving me well throughout the holiday season and beyond. I’ll be sure to be back with some Bal de Nuit EOTD’s for you to check out!

This product was a press sample sent to ABS by the lovely people over at Guerlain for blog consideration. Guerlain’s holiday collection is always amongst my favorites so needless to say I was absolutely ecstatic when Guerlain’s PR people reached out to little old me!

Guerlain Perle de Lune KissKiss Gloss Review, Swatches, Lip Swatches and Tons More Photos

October 30, 2009
Guerlain ‘Kiss Kiss’ Gloss in Perle de Lune #807 ($29)

Ahhh the beauty of the holiday season – crisp cool weather, ice skating in the park, snuggling up against that special somebody while sipping a mug of hot cocoa (all this assuming you live somewhere that actually gets cold in the winter LOL) – and best of all, the holiday collections! There’s nothing I love more than a good holiday beauty release, and Guerlain’s 2009 ‘Imperial Holiday’ Collection is definitely a stunner.

Guerlain really outdid themselves this 2009 holiday season with stunning black lace reminiscent packaging and elegant shimmering hues.

See my thoughts on the limited edition KissKiss gloss in Perle de Lune after the jump!

Guerlain ‘Kiss Kiss’ Gloss in Perle de Lune #807 came rather beautifully packaged, the always elegant gold-lidded tube dressed in black lace for the holidays. Perle de Lune is a pale champagne base interspersed with predominantly gold shimmer. The formula is non-sticky and hydrating, and coverage is sheer but scintillating. The KissKiss glosses all have a light florally rose scent to them that I actually quite enjoy as it seems to add to the elegance of the whole experience, and they last for a good 4-5 hours meaning you should be good for a night out on the town without having to constantly reapply.

Perle de Lune is the kind of shade that gives lips a shimmering gilded elegance when worn alone, but really comes to life when layered over darker shades that need that extra something to dress them up for a holiday soiree.

My favorite aspect of the KissKiss glosses? The dazzling shimmer which sadly is ridiculously hard to capture on camera. But if you enlarge the two lip shots down below, you’ll see what I mean ~ multi-dimensional shimmer that really is something special.

Since people having been asking me what my lips look like prior to applying lipstick/gloss, I’ve included a shot up top. The second lip shot is what Perle de Lune looks like over nude lipstick, and photo three is a shot of the gloss on its own sans flash.

I wouldn’t say Perle de Lune is a must-have as I’m sure many of you already have several glosses that are quite similar or just aren’t a fan of the sheerness, but if you’re looking for something to add a little pizazz to your holiday lip collection, definitely give the Guerlain KissKiss glosses a gander!

This review contains a press sample sent to ABS by the brand’s PR representative for blog consideration. Although this probably isn’t a shade that I would have chosen for myself, that’s what I love about press samples – getting to try (and being able to review) shades I probably wouldn’t have purchased on my own

Join Me On a Sneak Peek Into the Victoria’s Secret Offices and Holiday 2009 Releases!

October 28, 2009

This post is long overdue and all of these items have already launched, but a few months back I had the opportunity to check out the Victoria’s Secret headquarters and to preview the upcoming (now currently available) holiday releases. I figured you’d enjoy having a peek at the photos, and of course all the products!

I was so impressed by everything, particularly the fragrances. Everything smelled just heavenly and I had an absolutely amazing time ~ which is saying quite a bit considering this starting at an ungodly hour on a rainy morning.

See a million more photos and a few snippets of information after the jump! Oh and you also get to see the PJ’s I’ve been living in since attending this event =P.

This photo showcases the Velvet Amber Blackberry fragrance collection ~ the creators of this fragrance said that the scent is meant to evoke the sensuality of velvet – it’s warmth and the wonderful plush feeling it has. I never thought you could capture Velvet in a bottle, but this really comes pretty close! I absolutely loved the packaging for this line as well – so rich, so luxe, so elegant!

Oh forgot to mention – please keep in mind that a good majority of these products are in sample packaging and may or may not be accurate representations of the actual packaging.

One of my personal favorite collections amongst the holiday launches was this Peace Love Hope fragrance release from the PINK line. The scent is comprised of green apple and honeysuckle and it’s young, fresh, fruity and just simply delightful! LOVE everything from this line!

Victoria’s Secret also created some adorable holiday goodies that make ideal stocking stuffers as they’re cutely packaged and very affordable. Plus many of them even double as holiday ornaments!

Okay so these are the pajamas I’ve been living in since returning from this event. They were included in the goody bag and they’re seriously cozy, comfy, soft and just downright cute! I kind of feel like a Christmas elf in these, but in a good way.

And who doesn’t want to check out a bowl of beribboned underwear? I thought this photo would make a nice closer for this post. Hope you enjoyed joining me on my visit to the Victoria’s Secret corporate offices!
