A Belated Merry Christmas to You All!

December 29, 2009

Hey everyone! So I’m back from my little holiday hiatus (which really wasn’t much of a hiatus – I just couldn’t find the time to blog as work has been a madhouse) with some amazing new products and fun new ABS developments (including a big giveaway) coming your way very soon.

The lovely Nicole sent me the most amazing Christmas package and of course I had to share! She included:

  • Chanel Rouge Allure Laque in Dragon (seriously the most gorgeous red I’ve ever seen)
  • OPI DS Nail Lacquer in Reserve
  • Cle de Peau concealer (this has been on my wishlist for YEARS!)
  • Amore Pacific Clarifying Mask (smells yummy)
  • and a bunch of fun Hello Kitty goodies that really brighten up my office space

My other big Christmas gift came from the SO in the form of a Flip, which will finally enable me to post some (hopefully) great quality videos up on the ABS YouTube channel.

More photos (and details on my cute Flip skin) after the jump!

I’ve been lusting after the OPI Designer Series polishes since receiving DS Fantasy (photos here) and know that Reserve is going to be just as drool-worthy.

Chanel’s Rouge Allure Laques have a wonderfully creamy formula and are amazingly long-wearing – I loved Ming (photo here) and Dragon is one of the most stunning reds I’ve ever seen and pretty much universally flattering. My dear friend Cathy gave it a shot last night and it looked stunning on her.

I love Amore’s Treatment Enzyme Peel and I now have this Clarifying Masque which leaves my face looking toned, smooth and radiant. And it doesn’t hurt that it smells delicious to boot.

Cle de Peau’s concealer has long been hailed as the holy grail of concealers, and thanks to Nicole’s generosity I finally have it in my hands. It’s painfully small for something that’s so painfully expensive, but I’ve been playing with it for the past few days and it’s definitely living up to the hype thus far.

And now for the Flip! 🙂 I’ve been wanting one for the longest time so that I could post some HD videos for you on YouTube (I’ve been thinking of doing videos of my favorite pink lipsticks, product reviews, demonstrations, swatches, etc.) and the SO was kind enough to oblige. I ordered myself a skin from DecalGirl and now I’m good to go!

How have the holidays been treating you? Share with me in the comments!

It’s Snowing!

December 20, 2009

There is currently an honest-to goodness snowstorm raging outside my bedroom window, and having waded through at least a good 5 inches of snow while wearing 4 inch heels (not the smartest idea I know!), I can attest to the fact that it’s pretty darn cold outside! Nights like this make me think of sipping hot cocoa in front of a warm fireplace, and of course, festive holiday makeup.

So how’s your weekend been treating you thus far? I spent 11 hours Christmas shopping – can you believe it?! Of course some of that involved playing with makeup (it’s a hard task but somebody’s gotta do it =P) and I took a quick moment to test out Armani’s new Rouge D’Armani’s, which in a word are FABULOUS! It boasts 8-hour wear time and is just a gorgeous gorgeous formula ~ non-drying, long-wearing, pigmented, creamy, amazingly packaged.

More details after the jump!

Vogue editors chose Rouge d’Armani in shade #600 selected as a favorite, while Harper’s Bazaar declared Rouge d’Armani #500 a “must-have” – which is why I’ve ordered it for myself using my Saks Mystery Money. It was all of $20 this year, but that still meant I only had to pay $12 and change for my new lipstick, which I haven’t even swatched. Hopefully I love the shade!

Celebs who’ve been spotted in Rouge d’Armani include Rihanna (shade #401) and Kerry Washington (#100).

From what I remember, shade #503 was my favorite, but sadly it was sold out at Nordstrom and not available on the Saks site. I hope to get my hands on it soon though!

A Few Photos to Whet Your Appetite & A Quick Bal De Nuit EOTD

November 12, 2009

As many of you know, yesterday was a rather special night for me, and I chose to celebrate at DBGB Kitchen & Bar, one of my favorite new eateries. It’s nothing too fancy, just delicious simple food served in a great casual ambiance.

For our appetizers we ordered the Fried Egg Bourguignon (duck confit and cracklins, portobello mushroom, red wine and spicy greens) which was to die for (the SO and I were both tempted to order another), the Pate Campagnard (good but not great) and the Beef Bone Marrow (which comes with some delicious Katz’s pastrami).

No photos of the entrees as we were starving and forgot to take a photo before we devoured them, but in case you’re curious SO and I had the Sauteed Skate with Cauliflower Risotto and the House-Made Tagliolini Pasta. I absolutely love skate but it’s rarely done well, but DBGB’s was absolutely scrumptious and the risotto, with its beautiful baby cauliflower, was just heavenly. And don’t even get me started on the tagliolini – wild mushroom ragout, handmade pasta, spinach pistou, all topped with an egg yolk – warm comfort in a bowl!

And what’s a special occasion without dessert? While I love DBGB’s ice cream sundaes, I decided to try something different and got the Souffle Chaud which is a Grand Marnier souffle with creme anglaise that takes ten minutes as it’s prepared to order. It was hot, sugary, creamy, fluffy, and simply decadent.

As for my makeup, I decided to keep it simple and elegant by doing a quick look using my Guerlain Bal de Nuit holiday quad.

I used the soft ivory shade all over my lid and the taupe shade alng my outer V, then piled on the mascara and I was good to go! I wore Chanel Narcisse on my cheeks (I can’t thank Nicole enough for this, it’s seriously the most versatile blush I own), highlighted using Guerlain’s Perles Imperiales Meteorites, and my much-cherished Sensai Lipstick in Hitoume.

How was your Tuesday? Do anything interesting? 🙂

Lazy Saturday Morning & Sephora 20% Off AGAIN!

November 7, 2009

Have I ever mentioned how much I love Saturday mornings? Waking up at my usual 6am or so, a little dazed and confused, wondering if I should be getting up for work – then coming to the ever so wonderful realization that it’s Saturday, and I don’t need to get up for work. I of course then proceed to roll over and go back to sleep for another two hours or so. It’s really a wonderful thing!

So what are you up to on this beautiful Saturday morning? I’m sitting around on my bed with my laptop, contemplating putting together a few new posts and applying some Einstein Lip Therapy to my lips with random thoughts of Thanksgiving foods floating through my head. I’m thinking a little shopping (and definitely a visit to the post office that is long long overdue) is in order.

As for next week? Well I plan to stop by Sephora Private Holiday Shopping Event, taking place on November 12, 2009 between 7-9 PM, to take advantage of their special 20% discount offer – it’s like F&F all over again! You shoul’ve seen the little happy dance I did when I found this nestled between the pages of the Sephora holiday catalog a few days back. Anybody else planning to go?

I hope that you’re all enjoying a wonderful, leisurely Saturday morning!

ABS Wants: Flip MinoHD

November 2, 2009

Now that I’ve finally got my own A Beautyful Sentiment YouTube channel, I’ve been telling myself that I finally have an excuse to buy myself a Flip MinoHD which I’ve actually had on my wishlist for the longest time.

They come in the cutest patterns and you can even make your own designs to upload onto the site. Check out some of my personal favorites down below!

I’m DYING to get my hands on one of these cuties but sadly at around $230 they’re a little out of my budget at the moment. I do hope to scrounge together the pennies and save up for one of these so that I can bring you some great HD YouTube videos at some point though!

Random Pieces of ABS

October 20, 2009

1. Mood: Blah. The insomnia is back. Too tired to be productive, not tired enough to sleep.

2. Reading Material: The New York Times’ Will Shortz Present Crosswords for 365 Days. Keeps me occupied on the subway and I’ve convinced myself that challenging my brain now will keep me from going senile later.

3. Music: Alone by Outsider. A far cry from my usual kind of music but fastforward to 1:48 of his video and you’ll see what I mean.

4. Eyes & Lips: DEX mineral eyeshadows in Tudor City Plum and Rockefeller Gold; La Mer Lip Balm;

5. Perfume: YSL Parisienne ~ light and girly with a sexy edge. Can’t stop sniffing myself.

6. Munchies: Mint Aero Bar. Haven’t found one of these in the US in years!

7. Lemming: The whole range of Tsumori Chisato for Shu Uemura products (will be blogging about these momentarily). Ridiculously cute and knowing Shu, great quality too.

8. Wearing: Victoria’s Secret ‘The Fireside Long Jane Pajamas’ in Pink Stripe. Comfy and cozy and totally make me feel like a cute little elf.

Do Samples Make You Buy?

September 25, 2009

I’m a self-confessed beauty addict and sample hoarder ~ nothing makes me happier than going cosmetics shopping and coming home with a bunch of random samples to try! Which got me to thinking, how often does a sample actually lead to a product-purchase for you?

With me I’d say I end up purchasing the product a good 50% of the time. Sales associates are often very reluctant to hand out samples of products and this really confounds me since it’s not as though the samples are coming out of their salary ~ samples are exactly that, samples, and they’re meant for potential customers to try!

Samples that I’m currently testing out and loving are:

  • Chanel Sublimage Eye (this is beautifully emollient yet not too heavy)
  • Jill Stuart Powder Foundation
  • Rock & Republic lipgloss

What samples have you tried recently and loved? This summer the SO got me a sample of the Clarins SPF which I fell in love with and ended up purchasing two bottles of, and I know there are countless other products out there that I’ve purchased because I loved the sample. Yay samples!

ABS Wants: Dior ‘Serum de Rouge’ Tinted Lipstick & Silver Nike Gladiateur Mid Sandals

September 15, 2009
Dior ‘Serum de Rouge’ Tinted Lipstick ($32)

Discover the most luxurious lip treatment ever created: new Serum de Rouge by Dior. With ten times more active skincare ingredients than other lipsticks, Serum de Rouge features an amazingly creamy texture to moisturize, smooth and pamper your lips day after day. Enriched with mango butter and other natural extracts, this nourishing treatment actually boosts your lips’ microcirculation and collagen levels and enhances their appearance with luminous color.

Dior’s ‘Serum de Rouge’ is looking and sounding quite a lot like Cle de Peau’s Touche de Rouge Extra Silky Lipstick (click the link for my review) which I absolutely adore, and while it’s pretty pricey at $32, I’d say $32 is better than $50! More than anything I’m loving the sleek lipstick tube etched with Dior’s classic Lady Dior purse pattern. Gorgeous!

And this is not beauty related at all (you know I like to go off on my random tangents every now and then) but I happened to see these shoes in a little Nike boutique in SoHo on Saturday and while they’re as far from my usual style as you can get, I’m dying to own them. I mean gladiator shoes in sneaker form – how cute! Nike’s Gladiateur Mid Sandals run $80 but availability seems to be quite limited. What do you think?

Do You Color Your Hair At Home?

August 24, 2009

I’m an avid at-home hair colorer- are you? I’ve been using L’Oreal Feria’s hair dyes since I was in high school, and a long-standing favorite shade that I always end up going back to is Chocolate Cherry, the most gorgeous multi-dimensional shade of deep brown with auburn/red flashes I’ve seen to date.

I’ll be attending a workshop at the L’Oreal Technical Center in a few short weeks, so I was wondering: do you have any at-home hair color questions you’d love to see addressed? If so please do leave them in the comments and I’ll be bringing you home answers after my session!

Random Babblings…

August 19, 2009

Does the fact of your mortality ever come at your like a ton of bricks? While riding the bus which takes me to the subway which takes me to work this morning, I came to the realization that lately I’ve become so enmeshed in the process of getting somewhere that I’ve forgotten to take the time to actually live.

You know I’m not usually one to wax philosophic or to go all serious on you – ABS is all about escaping the challenges of our everyday lives – a pleasurable escape I’ve attempted to create for all of us. But lately it’s been feeling more like work than like play, and between the long hours I spend blogging, the ridiculous hours I work at the office Monday through Friday and some Sundays, the volunteer work I do every Sunday and the various responsibilities that take up my time on Saturdays, I’ve become so overwhelmed by short-term goals that I’ve really lost sight of what it is that makes me happy. The joy I my work and the fact that I was helping people used to bring me, the exhilaration I used to experience back when I first started blogging and I realized that more than 40 people had visited my blog in a day – these are things I want to get back to.

Which is all a roundabout way of saying that you’ll have to excuse the dearth of posts for this week. I’ve decided that I’m going to attempt to remember to do at least one thing for myself each day, whether it’s indulging in something completely silly and frivolous like reading a children’s book or playing hooky from work & blogging to just lie around in bed all day.
