Mixology Makeup Mineral Eyeshadow Review & Swatches

Mixology Makeup Mineral Eye Shadow

Before we get to the actual review, a little bit more on Mixology Makeup for those of you who have never heard of it. Mixology Makeup is a vegan mineral makeup line that contains no cheap fillers, no chemicals, no synthetic dyes (the culprits for most allergic reactions), no parabens, and no preservatives, and it’s bismuth & carmine free!

But what I love most about this line is its creator, Rae. She’s currently in China volunteering her time and participating in various humanitarian services, and purchasing her makeup via her Etsy shop is something you can really feel good about, since 5% of all sales goes towards enabling Mixology to sponsor 1 clean water well in an African Village through BloodWaterMission.com. The cost is $3,000, and they’re almost there!

Now onto the eyeshadows!

Swatches with Flash
(see same swatches without flash at the bottom of this post)
Top Row: Ingenue (blush), Suga, Punk Shoes, Rock Show
Middle Row: Pirate, Dune, Armor, U-Minx
Bottom Row: Turbulence, By Chance, Soot

  • Ingenue: A dusty peachy pink with lots of gold shimmer. Pigmented and smooth–a little more glitter than I would normally go for, but still beautiful.
  • Suga: A shimmery silvery baby pink that’s very finely milled.
  • Punk Shoes: A matte light purpley/pinky gray shade that I’d had high hope for but was a little disappointed by, only because it doesn’t show up as much as I would’ve hoped.
  • Rock Show: A gorgeous bright lilac/purple with shimmer that, while a little chunky, has great pigment and looks fabulous on. One of my favorites!

  • Pirate: A dark, rather matte purple that I just adore. It’s intense, pigmented, smoky, and just perfect to highlight your outer V to create a sexy evening eye.
  • Dune: Yet another love of mine. It’s seriously the perfect satiny beige that’s not too matte and not too shimmery. It makes a gorgeous highlighter, but I love to use it as an all-over eye shade on those days when I’m feeling more of a neutral eye.
  • Armor: Easily one of my favorites, Armor is a striking shimmery steel silver/gray that was a much-needed addition to my shadow collection.
  • U-Minx: Definitely the most pigmented shadow of the bunch by far, and that’s saying a lot since they’re all really pigmented. I literally used one little speck of U-Mix for this swatch. U-Minx is a decadent, rich chocolate brown that makes a seriously beautiful eyeliner thanks to its intense pigmentation.

  • Turbulence: Turbulence reinded me quite a bit of the Deep Blue Green pigment from MAC Hello Kitty (see swatch HERE). It has that same almost black look in certain lightings that reflects green/teal at certain angles and really has a beautiful, dramatic effect.
  • By Chance: To me By Chance looks like a pale gray with lavender undertones, but regardless of what color it actually is, I really like it for a matte, work-appropriate neutral eye.
  • Soot: A semi-matte charcoal gray that’s dramatic but has enough silvery blue overtone to make it a very versatile shade.

Overall I really loved my Mixology shadows. They come in a beautiful range of shades, have great pigmentation, come in both matte and shimmery options, and wear and blend beautifully.
