Cle de Peau Beaute Lip Gloss Swatches

December 23, 2008

I’ve always been fascinated by Cle de Peau Beaute, in large part because of their rather exorbitant prices. When something costs an arm and a leg, you can’t help but wonder if the product is so expensive because it really is that great, or if you’re paying mostly for branding and exclusivity. While I’m still not sure if the products are worth their high price tags, I must admit that I’ve been impressed thus far. I happen to love their cleansing foam, cleansing cream, and Touche de Rouge lipsticks, and I see a gloss purchase in the very near future, although at around $50 a pop I should probably be running as far from a CDP counter as I can get!

I only swatched what looked to be the three prettiest glosses to me, but sadly the third one I swatched had the number rubbed off so I don’t know what shade t is. The first two are CDP glosses #2 and #3 respectively–I’m leaning towards #2 myself since I don’t own anything quite like it and I love all of the gorgeous gold running through it.

I may pick one up as an after-Christmas treat if somebody doesn’t smack some sense into me before then!

Lipstick Queen Oxymoron Matte Gloss Swatches

December 23, 2008
Lipstick Queen Oxymoron Matte Gloss ($20)

Swatches (L to R): Free Ride, Minor Crisis, Honest Politician, Deafening Silence

I’ve been wanting to check these out for ages but never really found the time until I noticed that C.O. Bigelow had started carrying Lipstick Queen products. I haven’t purchased on just yet but I did get some swatches to share with you.

The basic concept behind these is that they glide on and feel almost like a gloss, yet look matte on your lips like a lipstick. It also doubles as a cream blush meaning this would make a great item for your on-the-go makeup bag. Each Oxymoron comes with a mini lip brush for easier of application–not too shabby for your $20 since they’re also huge. If you own these I’d love to know what you think!

Join Me On A Virtual Trip to Mitsuwa!

December 22, 2008

I know I’ve chatted with a few about Mistuwa (my local Japanese supermarket) at one point or another, and it’s seriously one of my favorite places in the world. They carry all sorts of delicacies flown in from Japan, and they also happen to have an amazing range of cosmetics!

Since you can’t all live in New Jersey and visit the wonderfulness that’s Mitsuwa, I thought I’d take you on a short little photo journey through their cosmetics aisle.

See that product on sale for $4.99 on the upper right? I’ll be reviewing that for you soon!

I’ll be reviewing Mandom’s wonderful makeup remover as well (bottom right).

See Biore’s Marshmallow Whip hiding in the corner?

And we get to my favorite photos–the boxes of hair dye! I love the gorgeous girls on the boxes, and of course, their makeup.

Which Eye?

December 22, 2008

I’m wearing a different mascara on each guy–can you guess which? One’s new, one I’ve reviewed already–which do you prefer?

OPI Holiday in Toyland Collection Review

December 19, 2008

I picked up OPI’s Tiny Toybox–a mini set of four of their Holiday in Toyland polishes–because it was simply the cutest thing that I’ve seen in ages. I’m usually the kind of person who uses a polish once or twice and then gets sick of it, so to have four mini polishes is perfect–I can use them once or twice and then move onto the next shade!

Glamour Game:
A shimmering champagne gold, great for a slightly frosty holiday look.

Brand New Skates:
A medium dark silver/gray with gorgeous multi-colored flecks of glitter that’s my favorite polish of the four. It’s dark without being too dark, glistens beautifully in the light, and the perfect polish for those days when you’re just not feeling the black polish.

Don’t Toy With Me!:
A burgundy sparkler that’s seriously stunning. You can see photos of me wearing it here, but honestly the photos don’t do it justice as it’s a much deeper, multi-dimensional shade that sparkles brilliantly. I generally avoid red polishes like the plague, but I’ve fallen hard for this one.

Little Red Wagon:
A classic holiday red that’s gorgeous for that Christmas-morning manicure.

OPI’s Baby It’s Coal Outside

I promised you a comparison of Dior’s Black Sequins and OPI’s Baby It’s Coal Outside nearly two months ago after the ever helpful Deb mentioned that the two are rather similar, and it took me awhile to track it down but here it finally is! Deb thank you so much for turning me onto this polish, because not only is it less than half the price of the Dior, but I actually find it to be much prettier!

The Dior has a finer shimmer to it that while visible just doesn’t give as great a starry night effect as Baby It’s Coal Outside does, and while the OPI dries to a nice smooth finish, the Dior retains a slightly gritty texture. The one thing that Black Sequins does have going for it is the fact that the polish is super black whereas the OPI tend to be a little less so. But overall both polishes are absolutely gorgeous and make for stunning black nails with a touch of silver shimmer.

25% Off Bobbi Brown Holiday Collection

December 19, 2008

Now through January 3, 2009 get 25% off plus free standard shipping on all of Bobbi Brown’s Holiday Collection! The discount is applied automatically, no codes necessary, so get shopping and pick up some great holiday palettes! I’ve got my eye on:

Bobbi Brown Night Sky Long-Wear Eye Palette ($41.25 after the 25% off)
I’m a huge fan of Bobbi Brown’s gel liners, and this great travel palette contains two liners, two cream shadows, plus a double ended brush. It’s a bit hard to travel with the BB gel liners and a brush, and so this palette would definitely make my life easier.

Bobbi Brown Moon Rock Long-Wear Eye Palette ($41.25 after 25% off)

Copper Diamond Cosmetic Bag with Brushes ($48.75 after the 25%)
I only own one Bobbi Brown brush (the Ultra Fine Eyeliner brush) but the quality is fabulous and I’ve heard such great things about BB’s other brushes that this mini-brush set is seriously tempting me. I wonder if the quality is like that of the MAC mini brush sets though–as in not nearly as good as the full-sized ones.

Latest La Mer Haul, Some Purple Yams and a Yam-Inspired FOTD

December 18, 2008

This post is basically a mish-mash of what I did this past weekend-I know I’ve been neglecting you! To start it all off, you can now follow me on Twitter!

FRIDAY: But onto more interesting things! My mother has a friend whose daughter works for Estee Lauder (corporate), and so as a one-time deal she picked up a bunch of products for us using her awesome 50% discount!! Look at all the great stuff we picked up!

The Haul:
~2 body creams
~1 radiant facial
~1 eye concentrate gift set
~1 lifting face serum
~1 2 oz. creme de la mer

Of course I’m seriously grateful to her will be reviewing many of the products for you! I’ve already started using the La Mer Body Creams and I LOVE!!!

SATURDAY: Had some absolutely stunning purple yams for breakfast. They’re a paler purple when raw, but steam them and you’re presented with this vivid, royal-purple hued tasty treat that’s simply delicious (and of course healthy).

Hung out with SO all day, then had a bit of a spat as I’d told him that I wouldn’t be going to his friend’s birthday thing that evening, yet somehow he’d conveniently failed to hear me. I got talked into going even though I looked horrendous (no makeup, hair in a bun, and the ugliest outfit ever), so we popped by Sephora for a quick makeover. I ended up wearing Urban Decay Deluxe Eyeshadow in Ransom, Urban Decay 24/7 liner in Zero, and Bare Escentuals Buxom Lips in Bambi (which I’ll be reviewing soon). I’m actualy not wearing any mascara since I hate mascara testers and I didn’t have any on me.

SUNDAY: Did my usual church thing, then did some work on these Swarovski crystal cell-phone charm crosses I”m making for my choir kids as their Christmas presents. Let’s hope they like them and my hours of slaving over tiny little beads isn’t for naught!

What did you do this weekend?

Too Faced’s Smurfette Collection Now Available Online!!

December 18, 2008

I used to love watching the Smurfs growing up, and of course Smurfette was my favorite. Too Faced’s Smurfette collection features smurfs, smurfs, and more smurfs–I’m loving how they pop against the black packaging! Will you be picking up anything?

So Smurfy Eyeshadow Collection ($32.50)
Too Faced So Smurfy Eye Shadow Collection contains four easy-to-use shades that can be used individually or together to create a signature Smurfette look. The velvety shadows glide on smoothly creating a seamless blend of gleaming color. Your pigment-drenched peepers will be left super Smurf-chic!

So Smurfy Illuminating Powder ($26)
Too Faced’s So Smurfy Illuminating Face Powder delivers complexion perfection. Smurfette’s signature color-correcting shades blend together for the prettiest perfection—you’re sure to be the hottest girl on your Smurf turf.

Mood Swing Emotionally Activated Gloss ($18.50)
An emotionally activated lip gloss that ranges from Smurf-blue shimmer to beautiful berry. Too Faced Smurfberry Mood Swing Emotionally Activated Lip Gloss allows you to wear your emotions on your lips. Depending on your body heat level, the gloss blooms into countless shades of Smurf-berry pink. You never know what shade you’ll get, but Smurfette thinks that’s part of the fun!

Smurfy-Eyed Liquid Liner ($17.50)
The Smurfette Collection Smurfy-Eyed Liquid Eyeliner lets you show off your Smurfette—inspired sparkles as you bat those eyes at every Smurf you see! You can use on the brows, hair, and anywhere else you want a special Smurf sparkle.

I happen to think everything is absolutely adorable, but with the way that I’ve been spending this month I don’t know if I’ll actually be getting anything. I’m leaning towards the illuminating powder and the gloss if anything, but we’ll have to see! And of course if I do get anything I’ll be reviewing it for you.
