ABS’ Five: REN Skincare Edition

December 3, 2008

I usually don’t dedicate my five to a particular brand, but while browsing Sephora’s skincare section this morning looking for something to spend my $15 off coupon code on (did you get one of these?) I came across REN Clean Bio Active Skincare, which is completely free from synthetic ingredients. A few clicks of the mouse over on MUA and I am now officially obsessed! I’m tempted by everything, particularly the masks–help me choose!

REN Glycolactic Skin Renewal Peel Mask ($55)
What it is:
A peel mask made with 100% natural fruit acids. This gentle but potent peel mask is formulated to dramatically remove dead cells, smooth lines, and help prevent the appearance of spots and blackheads. This peel contains natural AHA from fruits, and does not irritate the skin like its synthetic counterparts.

This is my top contender for purchase at the moment. Some reviewers mentioned that this, coupled with the Detoxifying Mask (see below) resulted in a drastic improvement in skintone/blackheads/whiteheads which I’m always up for, plus most of the other peels I’ve been looking at (Natura Bisse’s Glyco-Peeling for one) are just a little too rich for my blood.

Multi Mineral Detoxifying Facial Mask ($34)
What it is:
A purifying clay mask. This deep cleansing, purifying, peeling clay mask draws out impurities and decongests the skin leaving it soft and smooth. Pore size is reduced and skin imperfections are less visible.

Most of the clay masks that I’ve tried in my day have left me with the sensation of having my skin peeled off my face–excruciating stinging and burning and residual redness. But the results were almost always fabulous; clear pores, radiance and a more even tone and texture. I’m hoping this mask will give me similar results minus the feeling of being flayed alive.

REN F10 Enzymatic Smooth Radiance Facial Mask ($37)
What it is:
A gel-based fruit enzyme mask. This powerful, yet gentle blend of ten fruit extracts enzymatically exfoliates and detoxifies skin as it boosts cell turnover and skin renewal, leaving complexion smooth and radiant.

Omega 3 Overnight Lipid Renewal Serum ($60)
What it is:
A hydrating, nighttime facial serum. Replenishes the lipid barrier that retains moisture and stimulates the cell renewal process.

So from what I’ve read online this serum comes in oil form, and with all my skincare oil curiosity as of late I’m intrigued. I’m debating whether to go with this or the Argan Oil–at this point I’m leaning towards the Argan Oil.

Frankincense And Boswellia Serrata Revitalising Night Cream ($55)
What it is: A deeply nourishing night cream. Firms and brightens tired skin and helps relax expression lines.

Apparently one of the ingredients in this cream, Boswellic Acid, services to relax the facial muscles, thereby helping to prevent wrinkles. But since I’m relatively wrinkle-free at the moment, I’m more interested in the brightening and healing properties this night cream seems to have.

For those of you in the UK (or willing to pay international shipping costs), REN is currently having a 20% off promotion on their site (use code: PARTRIDGE) through midnight.
